Sean @ Comic Con Day 2: Sean Olsen
So Thursday is the first official day of Comic Con, and after all of the fun of Preview Night, would the first day live up to the previous day?
So here we go, I headed to the convention center and got right in, and I headed off to my first panel of the day, Astro Boy. I have to say that I was sort of interested in seeing this movie going into the Con, but after seeing some footage, I think I may pass. I was never a huge fan of Astro Boy, seen a few episodes, but they really are going to have their hands full with this movie. From some of the info and questions during the panel, it sounds like they are sort of trying to keep the fanboys happy, there are going to be little easter eggs for those familiar with Astro Boy. I think this movie will do OK in the box office; they will target it as a kids movie, and depending on what else opens around it, it may have a decent first week. The panel included director David Bowers, producer Maryanne Grager and stars Freddie Highmore and Kristen Bell.
So after that panel I ended up walking around the exhibit hall for a bit and ran into a few of my TRS peeps. I also got to meet Alison Haislip at her signing at the G4 booth. John and I also had a Blair Butler sighting while we were trying to find Matt. If only someone would come up with a celebrity sightings bingo game at Comic Con.
Next up was the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs panel. I have been somewhat excited about seeing this movie after I saw the first trailer. It’s a Sony animated movie, so it’s got to prove to me that is in the same league as any Pixar movie. But with the 3D element and comedy mix, this could be a very fun movie. They showed up a new trailer for the movie, and then showed us 3 clips from various points in the movie, so you can kind of get the feel of the whole story from what we saw. This movie is based on a children’s book that I have never read, but I am going to try and check it out before the movie comes out. The authors of the book liked the movie, so they are the movie’s toughest critic. But overall I was really entertained and I am going to make sure and not miss this movie when it comes out. It’s not Pixar quality, in my book, but it should be good either way. The panel included the directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and stars Anna Faris, Andy Samberg and Bobb’e J Thompson.
After that I headed off to Ballroom 20 in hopes to catch the end of the Burn Notice panel, but there was a very long line just to get into the room. So no go on that one. I ended up meeting up with John and Katie and went to the Legend of the Seeker panel. I guess it is some TV show based on a series of books, I had no idea what it was, I had to leave cause it was very warm in there, plus I wanted to see if I could get into the Dexter panel to meet up with the Nudia crew. No luck, still a very long line. I caught back up with the TRS peeps and then Matt and I headed off the special screening of Mystery Team. We found Dan at the theatre and then we got to skip the line and walk in with him and the rest of the mystery team crew, along with our new friends, the guys from Geek Tyrant. So we got into the theatre and we were chatting about the cool stuff in Hall H we missed out on. The theatre was packed, which was awesome and so was the movie. I posted a review of the movie earlier. After that we stuck around afterwords and talked with everyone before we headed back to meet up with the others.
After that, I think I headed back to my uncle’s, I knew Friday was going to be a long day. So Thursday was another great day, and this was looking to be the best comic con ever. And Friday was going to be my first trip to Hall H, the mecca of Comic Con.
More to come later, and if you want to see pics, here is the link once again to the photos I uploaded on facebook
