U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy died late Tuesday night at age 77. He had been fighting a brain tumor. Kennedy was the brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy. Plagued by scandal, controversy, and tragedy, Kenndey’s impressive political career spanned 50 years. Most recently, he was heavily advocating for the Senate to reform health care.

We have been getting daily calls from networks asking if he passed away would we be interested in airing in a memorial for him … which had been prepared for some time now. I guess it was only a matter of time.
You never want to see anyone have to suffer with cancer. That unto itself is tragic. I have never understood the fascination with the Kennedy clan. The whole Camelot nonsense and the overall feeling of entitlement that the family gives off is every thing that is wrong with our political system. As far as Ted, I don’t know enough about the Chapaquidick (sp?) incident to make a strong judgement but it certainly stains his legacy. My biggest political issue with him is the way he threw Jimmy Carter under the bus in 1980. He was much more concerned about fufilling his “destiny” to become president than he was with doing the best for his party. I already know we are going to get nonstop coverage for the next week that will rewrite his life into some kind of wonderful fairy tale in which all the negatives are glossed over and we will get the selfless public servant who cared so much about the little guy. If I hear one more time about how hard he has worked for universal health care I may throw up. He failed to accomplish this and had plenty of oppurtunity to do so.
Ted Kennedy was a great man shrouded in Political scandals of the past. Like any politician, there’s some shadiness that makes up his / her character.
With that being said, Ted was one of the best senators this country has seen. The work that he did on healthcare reform was commendable. Although, he didn’t accomplish everything he wanted, he laid the foundation for the building of a better healthcare options for all.
Arguably, the Kennedy family has been the face of some of the best times this country has seen. One could also argue the opposite side of this issue, which would make this blog spin rapidly into a Liberal vs. Conservative post, which it most definitely should not. At least not yet. I believe the best known phrase is, “too soon.”
Thank you Ted, for your relentless quest for peace, equality, and leadership.

@Chris I don’t think arguing the other side has to be political. I consider myself liberal but do not consider Kennedy a great man. Chappaquidick is not a political scandal it was tragic loss of life caused by recklessness and selfishness. You may have a diderent perspective being from Mass. but I don’t understand the worship surrounding the Kennedys.
Well I would rather see a weeks worth of coverage of his death. Than the weeks worth of Michael Jackson. Ted worked to help people, and loved this country and he worked hard to make up for what he did. May he rest in peace.
