School Zones…a Rant: Jeff W

27 August 2009 4 Comments

school_zone_signPretty much everywhere in the U.S., it’s that time of year. Depending on where you live, school is either starting, has started, or will be starting soon. This means that school zones are now in effect around the schools. Now don’t let the title of this article scare you. You might think I’m ranting about the school zones themselves but in actuality, I’m ranting about those drivers who choose to ignore the school zone signs. I say ignore since, at least here in Texas, pretty much all of the school zone signs have flashing lights on them that are pretty hard to miss. You also might think that the majority of folks who ignore the school zone signs would be folks who don’t have kids and so aren’t even aware that school has started. You would be wrong since over half of the folks I see speeding through the zones are people with kids in their car who are probably trying to get the kids to school on time. I want to yell at these people and tell them to SLOW down! Is it really going to be worth paying that steep fine for speeding in a school zone, or worse, having a wreck and injuring yourself and your kids or somebody else, just because you’re running a bit late? Leave a few minutes earlier if you think the zones are going to make you late…not that they will for the most part.

So…please pay attention to the school zones now that school’s back in session.

Nothing worse than some idiot who feels entitled because they are behind the wheel of a car and they’re late. It’s your own fault, dummy.

That was my exactly point Robin. I get very frustrated by those folks. And I have to go through 4 school zones on my way to work now so I’ve adjusted my schedule accordingly.

That should say “That was my point exactly” or “That was exactly my point”. Typed too fast for the brain on this Friday morning! :)

These are the same people who pass school buses, speed in neighborhoods, and block emergency vehicles because they are in a rush.
