Discuss: ‘Glee’ Episode 3 - “Acafellas”

gleeEpisode 1.3 of Glee, title Acafellas” airs tonight.  Discuss.

UPDATE: We had mixed feelings about tonight’s episode.  The ending part with Mercedes and Kurt was very sweet but the busted windshield part was kinda crazy.  However, we love how the football players are getting involved willingly.  As far as character development goes, Jane Lynch cracked us up again tonight (”I’m revoking your tanning privileges for the rest of this season!”) and Jayma Mays is still great as Emma.  We felt bad for Ryerson when Josh Grobin called him out for his stalking, but it was still funny.  And although the performances by the Glee club were just alright, we loved the performance by the Acafellas!  Did the part with the new choreographer remind anyone else of a Bring It On ripoff?  (BIG fan of that movie right here. Shut up.)

Also, anything with Jack Bristow Victor Garber is always about 1,000 extra points.

It looks like “Glee” is finally ’settling’ down from the first two episodes.  What do you guys think?

The fired choreographer. Duckface from Full House. He looks the same.

I felt like this episode was all over the place, but good. I especially liked Josh Groban talking about himself in the third person…”Josh Groban loves a blousy alcoholic.” There’s a lot of potential for several story lines and character development.

    Thank god for Hulu.

I actually love this show, and think this was actually a vast improvement on the pilot and episode 1.

We’re finally seeing other Glee members who aren’t Finn/Rachel come into their own, and the Mercedes/Kurt storyline was really well worked (ok, the window smashing was A LITTLE far, but its melodrama, thats the point of the show).

Alot has been said elsewhere about how the show is just a stereotypical high school show. But that’s sort of the point. Ryan Murphy is using these archetypal characters, the jock who wants to be more, the big black girl whose most obvious song choices are Respect and Golddigga, I could go on (I won’t).

I think that in the next few weeks we’re going to delve alot more into kurt’s character, he seems to be the one with the greatest inner struggle right now. They’re all misunderstood, but he seems to be the one with the greatest trouble expressing his issues.

I hope that sometime soon we see him and his disapproving father together in a scene, I think it would do wonders for Kurt as a character to get that weight off his chest of finally coming out to his dad.

Anyway, back to this episode: The fired coach, frickin brilliant. He needs to get with Sue for some sort of spinoff show, because together they’re comedy gold.

The ORIGINAL Acafellas line up was great, although I didnt like Finn or the other Jock joining Acafella’s, it felt forced - the acafellas were clearly all supposed to be older, and suddenly these 2 young high school kids are thrown into the mix.

Nothing has yet beat the CLASSIC gag reflex line from episode 2, but thats not surprising, it was the funniest line I’ve heard on any show in years. This show was riddled with brilliant one liners though, from all of the characters (Sue shone as always of course)

I can’t wait to see more from this great show!!

I would have preferred that since they are portraying Kurt so stereotypically that they would at least have made him open and not have the very 1990’s “coming out” moment after the girl falls for him. Other than that I enjoyed the episode.
