Sean @ The Movies: “Where the Wild Things Are” and “A Serious Man”

So it’s movie time once again, and this time it’s a double review for your reading pleasure.

First up, is Spike Jonze’s version of “Where the Wild Things Are”, based on the very popular children’s book, written by Maurice Sendak. I have been waiting for this movie, ever since I saw the first trailer, and all of the cool stuff I got to see at Comic Con last year. So I could say that I went in with high expectations.

The story is based around a young boy, by the name of Max (played by a boy named Max), who lives with his mom (who is divorced) and older sister. Max is your typical kid with a great imagination and is just trying to…

MLB World Series 2009: The Evil Empire is Back : Michael David

So the evil Yankees are back in the World Series and the debate about large market dominance in baseball has fired up again. Living between NY and Philly I have seen both sides of the issue. Until the last 5 - 7 years, the Phillies pretended to be a small market franchise and of course the Yankees are the bully many people love to hate. Personally, I think this is one of the best, most competitive eras of baseball and that a salary cap would ruin the game like it has ruined the NBA and NHL.  I would also argue that the NFL is not better because of the cap but the popularity of the sport itself overruns any detriment the cap may cause.…

World Series 2009: NY Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies

It’s baseball’s big week: The World Series.  This year, it’s between the NY Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies.  So let’s get a nice discussion (which will probably turn into a large debate, let’s face it) over Game 1.

Thoughts?

Microsoft Windows 7 Sucks: Clif Armstrong

Here’s why Microsoft Windows 7 will not get Mac users.

You’ve probably heard by now that Microsoft’s Windows and Mac’s Snow Leopard have been exchanging blows ever since their announcement.  Which ever one is better is all about your personal preference.

I’m not hear to bash Windows 7.  I haven’t even used it or tested it out.  So if Microsoft wants to take back it’s share of the OS market away from Apple, shouldn’t Microsoft make it easy for someone who has a Mac (like myself) to purchase and install a copy of Windows on their Mac?

Microsoft, you screwed up.

I have two computers: my Macbook Pro and a PC I built in 2005.  On my PC, I’ve run Windows 2000 and it’s…

‘Paranormal Activity’ Review: Jason Steele

Who doesn’t like scary movies?  That feeling of being terrified and scared so much that our adrenaline starts pumping is what makes us go to scary movies.  The edginess of not knowing what’s around the corner, who’s behind the shower curtain and WHY that blonde girl is going BACK into the room where we all KNOW she is going to get slashed by someone or something we all just expect.  But then there are those movies that come along and truly terrify us to the point of when we are done with the film we wonder what is going to come next when we go home and turn out the lights when we go to sleep.

That’s another thing about scary…

Discuss: Paul Haggis Quits Scientology; Should the Church Be Worried?

We’ve spent a decent amount of time getting political on YuBlog.org recently, but now it’s time to switch gears into a little healthy religious debate.  Oscar winning writer/director Paul Haggis (for Crash and Million Dollar Baby; check out more of what he’s been involved in at his imDb page here) has been a member of the Church of Scientology for 35 years.  Haggis recently resigned from Scientology, citing his reasons in a long email to Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis.  These reasons include primarily the Church’s stance on Gay Rights and their support of California’s infamous Proposition 8, something which Davis had promised a strongly protesting Haggis would be denounced 10 months ago but never happened.  This prompted Haggis to call Scientology “cowardly”…

NFL Picks Week 7: Debbie Nissim

Last week was just a disaster! Losers were winners and winners were losers. And speaking of losers, I gotta get to my paying job, so the picks will be quick this week.

New England versus Tampa Bay
Wonder which team will benefit from home field advantage? Oh wait, they’re playing in London, ENGLAND! Patriots playing in the land of the Tories.
New England

Minnesota at Pittsburgh
Vikings QB Brett Favre still has an arm, and the team is 6-0, but I think this week they’re up against a Steelers team that’s a bit better on defense and plays OUTSIDE.
Pittsburgh

San Francisco at Houston
The Texans have been showing up to play. Niners are top in their division -but at 3-2.
Houston

Indianapolis at St. Louis
I don’t know how The…
