Don’t read this…you’ll be spoiled: Jason Steele

12 October 2009 8 Comments

Well, I am not really going to “spoil” anything. But do any of you have those friends that do this:

Hey…don’t post anything on Twitter or Facebook about (insert show here), I am DVR’ing it and don’t want to have it ruined.

Sounds good. I won’t post anything on my Twitter or Faceb…wait a second…what?~! I can’t update my Twitter or Facebook because YOU don’t want to be spoiled and have the show ruined? Listen, I am sorry that you are not able to view at the same time as all of us. I know it must just suck. I have shows myself that I feel the same way about.

But guess what…I have a secret for you…I AM NOT GOING TO PUT MY LIFE ON HOLD CAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO HAVE YOUR SHOW RUINED FOR YOU!!

twitter-logoReally? I can’t update or use something that is PUBLIC DOMAIN cause you don’t want to be spoiled. Wow, let’s all just put our lives on hold until you catch up with the rest of us.

GIVE. ME. A. BREAK.

Oh and those of you that live on the West Coast and don’t want to have the people on the East Coast post on Twitter and FB cause you don’t want the show ruined…give it a break.

I have the solution to this problem. Seriously, it’s a great solution and it works BOTH for the DVR people and the West Coasters. Wanna hear it? Okay, here it is:

DON’T CHECK TWITTER AND FACEBOOK!

How about you have a little restraint and don’t let Twitter and Facebook run your lives? I say you give it a try.

Did he just tell me to NOT check Twitter and Facebook for a whole evening? Is he crazy?

Maybe I am a little crazy and SOMETIMES I may listen to the voices in my head but plan for solving this problem is SOUNDPROOF! IT WILL WORK! Try it!

Trust me!

In the end it just shows that we all depend on Facebook and Twitter if we are having to say on Facebook and Twitter about how we don’t want people to update their Facebook and Twitter cause WE don’t want to have a TV show spoiled.

Get over yourself. It’s a damn TV show.

P.S. This entry is three hours old and the people on the East Coast have already tweeted the HELL outta it.

I live on the West Coast and I agree with you. Once a show starts airing on the East Coast I consider it my responsibility to stay away from places where I am likely to get spoiled until after I have finished watching it on the West Coast. Sometimes people on the East Coast tweet things like “Only 10 more minutes until Fringe” which can be very helpful because I can lose track of time for my time zone and losing track of another time zone is even easier. I appreciate it when people use hashtags with the show name. If it wasn’t for #madmen I would think that half the people that I follow get completely weird every Sunday night because they suddenly start writing tweets that make no sense (I don’t watch Mad Men).

Honestly, I could care less if people spoil shows for me bc usually I don’t get a chance to watch shows online until days later or even weeks later anyway. But that’s just me. I actually think it’s kinda lame when people update Twitter and Facebook while they’re watching shows/sports.

As much as I can see where you’re coming from: Living in the UK I sometimes won’t see a show for like 6months or more after it airs in the US…so: I can’t exactly stay off FB or Twitter forever.

Its become a very good excuse to just keep up with US tv on bittorrent or Hulu (except that thats US only of course….yeah….I don’t use Hulu…) but for those who can’t and have friends in the US or elsewhere, SOME restraint would be nice.

“woah great episode!” is ok, but “OMG Can’t believe Juliet blew the bomb!” 10seconds after the episode ends…not so much.

There are 100000000000’s of places more private online where more intricate details can be discussed. 100000000000forums pop up every day for that exact purpose. Find one you like, and tweet to your hearts content.

Twitter and Facebook are great for instanenous reaction, but people who use them as practically blogging services as far as TV goes…thats not the point. Thats what blogs and forums and whatever exist for.

I have to agree with James, I think that as long as you are saying “That was good” or “Awesome” that’s fine but don’t go saying “Wow John Locke was in a wheel chair.” Earlier this year I had a class on Wednesday nights. I didn’t have time to come home after work to check email, Twitter, etc. And by the time I got home from school I had just enough time to check these outlets eat dinner, watch Lost and go to bed. Sure I could have stayed off the outlets but since Lost was on it was a great and only time to check on everything. I have other friends on these outlets that don’t watch Lost and I would like to find out what they are up to during the day. Like James said there are plenty of other outlets to discuss the details of the show. The Jay and Jack message board is a good place.

I agree that you should watch these shows when you can and talk/tweet about it later…sometimes I/you catch a detail everybody else missed and then it’s NEW NEWS !!!
