It’s baseball’s big week: The World Series. This year, it’s between the NY Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies. So let’s get a nice discussion (which will probably turn into a large debate, let’s face it) over Game 1.

As a native New Yorker and lifelong Yankees fan, I’d like to start and say Let’s go Yanks!!
(Now if someone proclaiming Yankee love doesn’t get discussion going, I don’t know what will…)
I live between the two cities and almost all my family are Philly fans but I only have one thing to say TTHHHEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!
To start, I’m a lifelong Phillies fan. If the Phils can split in New York I think we got the series pretty in hand. Tonight it’s just a matter of who can get to each other’s bullpen the fastest because I don’t see CC or Lee giving up anything.
I also live right between the two cities Michael.. but GO PHILS!
thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh yankees win! (i hope)
Top 1st: Rollins bunts on first pitch. Tagged out before getting to first. Victorino pops out to Cano. Utley walks. Howard hits line drive to right field for a double, Utley on third. Werth walked, bases loaded for Ibanez who, on a 3-1 count, hits a strike to Cano and is out at first.
Oh yeah, Philly native here. GO PHILLIES!!!
Bottom of first: Lee strikes out Jeter, Damon grounds one to Utley, out at first. Teixeira strikes out swinging.
Top of 2nd: Full count to Ben Francisco (in for Ibanez in LF) grounds to A-Rod, out at first. Feliz grounds to Jeter, out at first. Ruiz chops one to Cano, out at first.
Bottom of 2nd: (Rain is clearly picking up to a strong mist, by the way) Lee strikes out A-Rod, Posada singles to RF, Matsui strikes out on 2-2 changeup, Cano flies to CF on first pitch, caught by Victorino.
Top of 3rd: Rollins flies out to the track in CF and is caught by Cabrera, Victorino grounds to Jeter and is out at first, long at bat for Utley with several foul tips then full count then HOME RUN!!
CC strikes out Howard. End of 3rd. 1-0 after Utley’s single HR to right field just past the wall.
Bottom of 3rd: Swisher pops out to Howard, Cabrera pops to shallow CF to Utley, Jeter hits line drive double right along 1B line, Damon chops to Feliz and is out at first.
Top of 4th: Werth taps one infield and is out at first. Ibanez struck out looking, Francisco flies out to Cabrera.
Live in Philly, so GO PHILS!!! That being said, I am also a Yankees fan.
The pre-game introductions show how terrible missed Bob Sheppard is. I guess it’s not easy taking over for a legend, but it sure was jarring not hearing the Voice of God at the Stadium. Though I’m glad Jeter still has Sheppard for his AB’s.
Phils in 6 baby!!!!
Bottom of 4th: Lee strikes out Teixeira (5th strikeout for Lee), Strikes out A-Rod, Strikes out Posada. 1-2-3 go the Yanks. 7 strikeouts for Lee.
Cliff Lee is looking awesome, I’m a natural worrier so I’m naturally worried.
Top of 5th: CC strikes out Feliz on a checked swing, Ruiz grounds to Jeter and is out at first, 0-2 to J-Ro who pops to pitcher’s mound and is caught by A-Rod.
Bottom of 5th: Matsui grounds one up the middle to CF for a single, Cano hits low right to Rollins glove, Rollins throws to first but Howard is off the bag then Howard tags Matsui. Umps call it one out with Matsui back on first but umps meet to figure it out. Decide it is two outs.
Swisher pops to shallow CF and Werth catches it after waving Utley and Howard off. Still 1-0 Phils. GO PHILLIES!!
You’d think that after last Tuesday’s 3rd base “incident” with Cano & Posada that Matsui would have learned.
Is anyone else seriously creeped out by the end of the Droid phone mock-iPhone commercial when it switches to the “Droid does” part? Definitely creeps me out, perhaps more so than the Palm Pre chick.
Top of 6th: I missed what happened with Victorino but he’s out, then 2ND HOME RUN FOR UTLEY! 2-0 PHILLIES!!!
Cliff Lee is just better tonight.
For the record, soul patches look ridiculous.
Meh.
Howard strikes out, Werth hits a roller between 1B and 2B out to RF for a single, Ibanez strikes out on 0-2 count. Phils up 2-0.
Is that Ivan DeJesus at short?
Ad for ‘Fringe’. I love the playoffs but have been in serious ‘Fringe’ withdrawal these past two weeks. I cannot wait for it to come back!
Bottom of 6th: Cabrera first shows bunt with no runners on (Yanks getting desperate, I guess)
Cabrera pops out to Werth, Jeter hits down the middle to CF for a single, HAHAHA: Lee casually catches a pop up from Damon, Teixeira grounds to Utley who tags second before Jeter can reach it.
Neil - i’m behind on Fringe this season but everything I’ve read on here and seen from commercials, it seems like it’s really hit its stride this season
In attendance at tonight’s game: Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Jeff Gordon, Alec Baldwin, Army General Casey. Both First Michelle Obama and Second Lady Mrs. Biden were previously reported to be in attendance and presumably so are Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
Top of 7th inning: CC gives a lead off walk to Francisco, Feliz hits first pitch right to A-Rod = double play, Ruiz grounds to A-Rod and out at first. 7th inning stretch. 2-0 Phils.
2-0 Philly but Lidge has to close it out if it stays this way. I like our chances. GO YANKS!!!!!!
Bottom of 7th: A-Rod grounds to Feliz and is out at first, Posada checks his swing but gets a piece for a fair roller towards Lee who tags him out on his way to first, Matsui grounds to Feliz and is out at first.
Top of 8th: Awwww. CC is done. Hughes relieves and lead-off walks Rollins. Rollins steals second on 3-0 pitch to Victorino. HA! Back to back walks. Girardi comes out to take out Hughes.
Marte in for Hughes with Utley at the plate, Victorino at first, Rollins at second. Utley strikes out, Howard flies out to RF but Rollins advances to third. Marte is pulled out.
Robertson in for Marte. Walks Werth to load the bases for Ibanez with 2 outs.
Ibanez hits a chopper to RF to bring in Rollins and Victorino. 4-0 Phillies.
The end. Nice job Hughes.
Francisco ground to A-Rod and is out at first.
Phil Hughes is no Nino Espinosa.
yeah this sucks. maybe tomorrow night, we’ll remember how to play baseball.
Bottom of 8th inning: Lee catches the ball BEHIND HIS BACK that’s hit by Cano for out 1, Lee strikes out Swisher looking (8th strikeout), Cabrera flies out to Victorino.
Wow. Looks like another great year ahead for ‘24.’ Cannot wait!
Top of the 9th: Feliz pops out to Cano, Ruiz hits to the track in CF for a double, J-Ro hits an infield base hit towards A-Rod for a single, Ruiz at third. Victorino hits a line drive to RF to bring Ruiz home. 5-0 PhILLIES. Pitching change: Coke up against Utley with Rollins at second and Victorino at first with 1 out. Utley flies out to CF but Rollins advances to third. Howard drops on in RF to bring Rollins home but Victorino is tagged out by Posada at home. 6-0 Phillies.
Bottom of 9th: Jeter pops to CF for a single, Damon singles to RF, Teixeira grounds to Utley who tosses to Rollins for the tag at second, Rollins throws high to Howard for an error that brings Jeter home. 6-1 Phillies. A-Rod strikes out swinging, same for Posada. PHILLIES WIN GAME 1 6-1!!!!
