LOST Discussion: Where is the Lost Fandom Going Next?

2 November 2009 9 Comments

With only one season left of Lost, the huge fandom the show has gathered are going to be looking for a new way to get their fix.

For some, this will mean FlashForward, or V, or other similar sci-fi shows.

Others are not ready to give up on the Losties just yet. Some, like The Oceanic 6 (http://www.youtube.com/user/theoceanicsixmusic or check them out on here on nuDia.tv!) are a new Lost music movement (Locke, or Lost Rock), others love Fan Art, some are planning huge Lost marathons for when the show is over and we can all have the 6 seasons on Blu Ray or DVD.

So where will you turn when Lost is over? Hurry, you’ve only got a little over 8 months to decide.

I don’t think Lost will sustain itself like Harry Potter or even Star Trek but it may be more like a Twilight Zone that maybe gets remade down the road or inspires similar projects. I’m not sure we’ve seen the show that will capture the Lost audience yet. Also I don’t know if one show will be able to do that. Lost was very different when it came along and it will take that same unique thinking to reproduce the fan loyalty that Lost has. For Flash Forward is just a show and I haven’t seen V yet but I don’t think either will be as big. I enjoyed Invasion when it was on and I don’t know what V will bring that is different than that.

I have not found any shows that come close to resembling lost because lost started out one way and slowly evolved slowly making its way from A to Z. Shows like FlashForward in their attempts to copy lost start their pilots out on x and that is why they fail.

Lost succeeded because it had many mysteries and great characters. Flashforward is interesting, but like Invasion and V and Surface, there is only one mystery and it may be difficult to maintain a storyline for more than a year. I like Flashforward but I don’t love it. I don’t even want to imagine what it will be like without Lost. I don’t know if it can ever be replicated.

Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I don’t wanna even think about it!!! Really, NOTHING will ever be this good. Like everyone said already; LOST has gone in so many directions over the seasons and it has “sustained’ on network TV! How awesome is that? Flash Forward is good, but not great. It has science and character development but I doubt that if I missed an episode later on it would matter. As far as ‘V’ goes, it is complete sci-fi and I don’t think it will last .

Lost has kept us interested for 5 years, for every mystery they solve they give us two new mysteries. What other show does that? In the first episode alone, we had the smoke monster and a polar bear, then we had Christian, Adam and Eve, Walt, Locke’s mysterious recovery, it just goes on and on. Everytime you rewatch an episode you see something new. It was so much fun to see what brought each character to the island and how their lives intersected with each other.

The Brig was on Sunday night, and it made me think about the “magic box” now it seems that might have been a misdirection, and Locke’s dad was the smoke monster. I didn’t think of that at the time, but since last season I look at the episode in a whole new way.

If any show wants to be the new Lost. They need to build a multi-layer story with multi-layered characters. So far Flashforward has not done that. If you take away the reason for the flashforward, how much story do you have left?

I’m gonna feel kinda empty when Lost ends.
I watch Flashforward, but honestly it can’t carry Lost’s jockstrap

Lost will probably NEVER be remade. At least not until everyone involved with the original series have long been dead. A movie would ruin Lost, because to me, the whole point of the way the story is told is to let the viewers be engulfed into the series and not have them talking about it for a little while when it is popular, like a movie. A TV show is the way to go : )

Another point about how good LOST is—-it contains so much of so many different things: it has good characters / good music / good references to literature and philosophy / as well as science and science-fiction / not to mention a beautiful location to film in ! I don’t think there has ever been another show that pointed me in so many other directions for learning. I’ve really found out a lot about many diverse subjects because this show pointed me there! It is THAT good and it can tie together ALL of these subjects if you pay attention. Maybe I’ll just watch the DVD’s from time to time and continue on a path of exploration of those ideas I never had enough time to fully absorb.

Why would they ever try to remake it? It would be like trying to remake “Gone with the Wind”. It is a classic.
