12-Inch Ray Stanz By Mattel Review: Jay Glatfelter

3 November 2009 No Comment

Everyone who knows me knows I love Ghostbusters.  Most also know that I love action figures.  There’s just something about a piece of plastic that opens up my imagination.  As a kid, I could spend hours upon hours playing in my own universe where Batman would work with the Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters to defeat Darth Vader. Most figures from my generation were from the 4- to 6-inch range. The 12-inch figures of my father’s generation had fallen out of favor by the time I was playing with toys because let’s face it, it’s a lot easier to command an army of 5-inch figures compared to 12-inch figures.

FlashForward 20 years (get it) and I have purchased my first 12-inch figure and what a figure it is.

I present the 12-inch Movie Masters Ray Stantz from Mattel. This thing is awesome; head to toe, it just oozes detail.  The jumpsuit is perfect, doesn’t look out of place (something common in this scale). The face sculpt looks like Dan Aykroyd, and last but not least the accessories are amazing.  The Proton Pack looks like they used Wayne Zalinskies’ shrinking machine on the real thing.  Mattel did a great job and the proton pack is worth the price of the figure alone.  They also did a great job on the trap (it really opens) and the Ecto goggles. The figure is $60 but when you consider most figures in this scale are easily over a hundred dollars, Ray is a steal.  So if you have been waiting for a great Ghostbusters figure in 12-inch form, this is the first and best chance you have had.  They are available now and only on MattyCollector.com.

While I don’t have a lot of shelf space, I’ll have to make a little more room for Ray Stantz, the heart of the Ghostbusters.
