Avatar: Story Done Right. : Clif Armstrong

Say whatever crazy thing about James Cameron you want to, but he sure knows how to put a story together.  By now, you’ve heard that Avatar has shattered box office records and wowed audiences from all over the place.  From the luminescent forests of Pandora to the tech metal clanking of mechs, every detail of Avatar has been graced with the latest CGI, talent, computer design, photo realistic and motion capture, experience that we’ve ever seen.  In other words, Avatar would fail if it didn’t have a good story to back it up.

There are several movies that are arguably bad while pouring advertising dollars into showcasing their CGI muscle. Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith, Final Fantasy Spirits Within, Transformers… and while each movie…

New Years Resolutions: Michael David

Every year at this time people begin making their list of resolutions, whether it is losing weight, going to the gym, or quitting smoking and almost certainly they are doomed to fail.  Setting some arbitrary date to begin a change is useless. If you are motivated to improve yourself or change a behavior do it now.  Do not wait until the 1st,  just go after your goals immediately.  Making a life change is never easy and putting it off doesn’t make it any easier.

We all have faults or shortcomings that we wish to change, and the time for that is now.  What will waiting a few days or weeks buy you?  Myself, I have come to realize I am a…

A Frequent Flyer’s Humble Advice to TSA: Colleen McAllister

So on Christmas Day 2009, a man who was on a government watch list (but not on a “no-fly” list) and brought to US officials’ attention just one month ago unsuccessfully attempted to ignited a “crotch bomb” on an international flight from Nigeria to Holland to Detriot, Michigan.  If you haven’t been following, here’s the recap:  This man had put an explosive chemical called pentaerythritol into a condom and then sewed that into his underwear.  About 40 minutes before landing, the man went to use the restroom and 20 minutes later returned to his seat, pulled a blanket over himself and lit the explosive.  I’d tell you the rest of the heroic stuff but I’ll save that for the movie. …

Windows 7 Doesn’t Really Suck… : Clif Armstrong

So a while ago, I wrote an article on pretty much why the new Microsoft Windows 7 sucks.  Basically, I didn’t give a thorough review on the operating system.  It was too expensive for me to test out.  Since then, I’ve built a new PC because of a couple of games that have come out, as well as to balance the ‘Mac’ side of things in my work and fun. Below is my experience with Windows 7 Professional.

Luckily through some digging and blog surfing, I was able to find out that you can get a full copy of Windows that’s called a “Systems Developer” install pack for about 100 bucks cheaper than it’s full retail version price. It’s a full copy of…

Sean @ the Movies: Fantastic Mr Fox, Ninja Assassin and Brothers

If you would have told me that Wes Anderson would make a stop motion film, I would have never believed you. Well with Fantastic Mr. Fox he did just that.  The story is based on the children’s novel by Roald Dahl, about a family of foxes and their battle with a few local farmers. Mr. Fox was a great thief and after a near death experience and the birth of his child, he decides to quit, but after moving into a new place, the temptation to steal from the local farmers gets the best of him. The farmers then team up together to beat their common enemy. The voice acting for this movie includes George Clooney (Mr Fox), Meryl Streep (Mrs. Fox), Bill Murray (Badger),…

Unions are Killing Themselves: Anonymous

I have worked both union and non-union jobs and am currently a union public employee.  I have seen my share of bad employees in both the public and private sector.  The difference generally is the bad employees in the private sector bounce from place to place while in public employment they stagnate in one position for life.  Currently many states are in financial crisis for many different reasons and the first targets are always the public workforce and in my eyes this is because the unions protect the worst of the worst to the detriment of good employees.

One of the biggest problems I have found is that the union leadership is generally made up of a bunch of people who…

Sean @ the Movies: “The Fourth Kind” “2012″ and “Youth in Revolt”

Do aliens exist? In my opinion, I do believe there is most likely some other form of creature out there in the universe. I have to say that if a movie has something to do with aliens, I am usually in and I like the movie. One of my favorite movies growing up was Fire in the Sky, a great movie about an alien abduction. Well there is one small exception to that rule, the newest Indiana Jones movie.  That is all I am going to say. So The Fourth Kind is directed and written by Olatunde Osunsanmi and stars Milla Jovovich.  The movie starts right off by telling you exactly what you should expect and the story behind the movie.  It follows…

LOST Discussion: Which of the 4 Versions of Season 5 on DVD Will You Get?

On December 8th four versions of LOST Season 5 will be released onto disc, in order of expense there will be a standard edition DVD (cheapest), a special edition Dharma Initiative DVD, a standard edition Blu-ray, and a special Edition Dharma Initiative Blu-ray (most expensive).

So between the $35 standard edition DVDs and the $85 special edition Blu-ray and everything else in between, which one will you be getting?

Just a reminder LOST University (LU) is available on both Blu-rays but not the DVDs LU requires BD-Live.  I know I will be purchasing the Blu-ray version but I am not so sure of the Dharma special Initiative is really worth it.
