Lost & the Stephen King Connection: Jason Steele

Editor’s Note: In case you haven’t figured it out by now, this week is Lost Week” here at YuBlog.org.  However, we’re still looking for posts in all categories so feel free to email us anything you want to submit at YuBlog.org@gmail.com.

Many theories come and some have been proven right and then some…well they went the way of the dodo bird.  I think I have one that is going to blow your minds.

the-stand-stephen-kingBoth Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff are huge fans of Stephen King.  They have worked on adaptations of books and are huge fans of his books.  Writers take small snippets from writers they liked and expand on those in books, shows and movies.  I have a feeling that both Cuse and Lindeloff have done this with Stephen King and it’s going to explain the Island, the Man in Black and possibly give us a name for him too.

In the book “The Stand,” good defeats evil and it’s over.  However there is a coda to the book.  It happens when a man finds himself on an island and he walks up to the inhabitants and raises his hands to them and they bow before him.  He professes himself to be named “Russell Faraday” (FARADAY!) and he is there to teach the people how to be civilized.

lost-man-in-blackThis is where LOST comes in.  My theory has nothing to do with the Losties.  I think that the man at the end of the book “The Stand” (Russell Faraday) is the Man In Black (aka Deadwood Guy).  The island is his starting grounds for his game that he and Jacob are involved in.  My theory is that the Man in Black was there on the island first and that he will have the initials of “R.F” and this will be a direct reference to the “R.F.” character that makes multiple appearances throughout Stephen King novels.  I know it’s a long shot theory but with the ending of “The Stand” being an island and there be a man that teaches humans to be civilized it all seems to fit.

Sounds like a good theory. And it would be awesome if the MIB ended up being a Faraday.

This theory is very JK Rowling “RB” of you… ;) So now we have to think of what character names could be RF based on famous philosophers and what not, huh? Anyone have any ideas?

Having read The Stand & The Eyes of the Dragon, two of King’s books that have the “R.F” character in it, I’d have to agree with the theory.

But I think the Faraday last name isn’t a connection to our physicist friend.

Just another “F” for the “R.F”

ANYONE WHO WISHES TO READ UP MORE ON THE R.F. CHARACTER READ ON,
IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SPOIL YOURSELF FROM KING’S BOOKS, STOP HERE.

    I MEAN IT.

LOST SPOILER: If found, please put it on the back of my sick ride.

Credit @luckyshirt of Twitter for the joke.

But seriously, folks, J.J. Abrams was toying with the idea of adapting King’s Dark Tower series to TV, so he must be a King fan as well. The Dark Tower series deals with alternate worlds/realities, so there might be a connection there.

To amend my last comment R.F is also one of the main baddies of the Dark Tower series.
