They need to answer the Sayid question quickly

  • Matt (darry2385) said:

Agree w/ will. From the looks of it they just might

Sayid is alive! He definitely deserved another go around.

Kate seemed to recognize Jack, maybe just from the plane, but maybe not.

    haha “hey I’m walking here!”

  • Poul said:

I’m curious as to why Miles was freaked out when questioned by Hurley at the end of last weeks episode. Did he know Sayid wasn’t actually dead because no dead-people speak was coming from his body? Did he feel some other-worldly presence go into his corpse? It may be meaningless but I want to know.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

And Jack seemed to recognize Kate

Poor Claire first time coming to America, gets car-jacked and robbed.

@Poul I was thinking the same thing about Miles

  • Jimmy in GA said:

Sayid is healing rapidly, that’s very nice. The question remains, why is apparently so important?

As sad as the reason for his behavior is, I’m enjoying this side of Sawyer

Sawyer is both very pretty and very stupid.

    Miles seems confused about Sayid.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Been waiting for Shutter Island to come out since I saw the first preview so many months ago

“You better not slow me down.” Oh snap!

anyone notice the flashside ways noise is more of an airplane noise than the old swooshing flashback noise

Guess Claire IS still pregnant in the sideways

Jack almost kissed Kate right there

I am thinking the reason the H2O was not clear.. is that it held Jacobs blood.. since he died.

They must be testing to make sure he isn’t part Smokey?

  • Jimmy in GA said:

This is some weird torture stuff here. Looks like something from Frankenstien movies.

  • Will said:

    Is this Sayid? Tough Sayid?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Twice Sayid comes to the island and twice he gets tortured. Sucks, dude.

  • Jennifer said:

the torturer is getting tortured. oh my.

  • Poul said:

    @ Jessica good call

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Speared just like Jesus was, to make sure he was dead on the cross.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    These new others are weird.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Wait, he failed the test? Is he party Smoky?

  • Poul said:

This was part of my miles being creeped out theory- Jacob’s entity now in Sayid?

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

Sooner or later Kate will take a hint and stop running after men that leave her

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Agree with Poul

  • Whodini said:

I’m thinking they tested to see if he’s Jacob, he isn’t, which is why he failed the test.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

How can they expect us to still care about Claire

    Ticka Ticka

  • PastorChrisSeay said:

The Spring that Sayid was healed in was likely a tip of the hat to the historic Spring that was aid to have healed Horace the Poet in 23 BC - Sayid was wearing the dharma jumpsuit of Horace.

Ohhhhh Aldo he was the one that was guarding Room 23 where Walt was.

I love that Japanese Harrison Ford is playing on Jack’s guilt right now. Jack’s falling for it like he’s season 2 Locke…

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    The infection of Smokie?

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    Ahhh Stop with the commercials.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Jack just got put in his place.

    And way too many commercials.

  • zgk said:

Is the infection the same as the illness that made Desmonds hatch friend all crazy? Is it what Rousseau’s crew developed leading to her killing them?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Alice in Wonderland looks incredibly crazy.

  • Colleen (author) said:

I think that the infection is the same thing. Now we just have to figure out WHAT exactly is the infection? Could Locke have had it and that’s how Smokey was able to mirror his likeness?

  • Maxx said:

So where the heck is Jacob in all this? Gone?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    No “Zombie Season” heh.

  • Colleen (author) said:

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    maybe Christian will show up.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Ha ha Kate might have to deliver Aaron twice.

  • Yasmin said:

Kate is going to deliver Aaron again

  • SWLostie said:

Looks like Kate is delivering a baby again…sorta thought Juliet would answer that door…or some reveal like that.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

That’s weird to think that all this time one of those houses, was Sawyer’s and Julliet’s.

  • Colleen (author) said:

It’s really weird for me to see all those houses now that I’ve seen what they look like in real life lol

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    This movie looks funny.

  • SWLostie said:

This ep is moving kinda slow

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    ETHAN!

    Ethan’s gonna kidnap her again!!

  • SWLostie said:

    Ethan…frickin sweet!

  • Will said:

    Goodspeed?

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Oh is that bizarre. So Ethan got off the island before 1977.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    What’s wrong with my baby?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Holy freakin Crap twice in 2 minutes. Ethan and she’s naming hte baby Aaron.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

they sent the woman and children away on the sub

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Was it just me or did Kate have a look on her face as soon as Claire said Aaron?

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Jimmy in GA - you’re right, they did, didn’t they! So baby Miles is still alive…

@Matt in Syracuse - I think she had a look on her face too…

Oh Jesus, he had a ring. Now I’m sad and weepy all over again

That’s gotta be the ring right?

  • Colleen (author) said:

Ah crap, now I’m going to cry! I want them to get married!

  • Ken said:

We’re getting some awesome faces from Sawyer in this ep… Lol

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Josh Holloway truly has grown into a very talented actor.

  • PastorChrisSeay said:

    which time? great line

  • Michael Kirschner said:

Kate should just fall face first in the water and die. Sawyer should have shot through the wall only to realize after it’s too late that he killed Kate. Kate is a worthless character who slows down the story all the time.

  • zgk said:

trust did NOT want him eating that pill! hahaha

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Dogen wants whatever is inside Sayid dead. So I think that quite possibly shoots down any “Jacob in Sayid” theories, right?

  • Michael Kirschner said:

Sayid doesen’t have an infection inside him he is the infection on the island

  • Will said:

Well, it would’ve eliminated the indection

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Wow Jack is awesome this season, taking charge. That shocked me when he took the pill. I thought he was going to break it.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

I would agree - Jacob isn’t inside Sayid.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

I thought the pill was just filled with ash

  • SWLostie said:

    Where’s not-locke-in-black?

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Matt in Sy - yeah, I think so. But it’s not Smokey inside of him, so then what is it?

  • Jimmy in GA said:

this episode has gone by very fast, even with all the commericals

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    @Colleen One of ManInLocke’s allies?

  • Will said:

I don’t think anybody’s in Sayid except Sayid.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    @Jimmy - they always do

  • Matt in PA said:

    Joan Hart? WTH?

  • Jimmy in GA said:

Joan Hart, that’s a weird little alias for Kate.

  • Colleen (author) said:

Shout out to Melissa Joan Hart perhaps? Since the actress that played her mother also was Aunt Zelda on Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

  • Will said:

I was hoping for more Locke and Richard

  • Jimmy in GA said:

something cool has got to happen in the next three minutes

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

So Sawyer’s gonna play I Am Legend and act like he’s living on the island alone

  • Poul said:

Gah I was looking for the Sabrina connection. Too slow…

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    That’s a good thought Colleen

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    omg

  • Will said:

    Poor Claire

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Oh crap. So Claire is….something bad. Wish we knew just what it was

  • Colleen (author) said:

WHAT!!!!! Claire was “claimed” too?! I guess that makes sense since she was sitting in the cabin with Christian and whoever claimed him…

  • Yasmin said:

I want a Sun and Jin reunion soon

  • Michael Kirschner said:

    Dharma backpack

  • Jimmy in GA said:

    Claire is looking rough

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    And speaking of Claire…

  • Whodini said:

    Claire!

  • Michael Kirschner said:

    WTF???????????????????????????????????????????

  • Michael Kirschner said:

    And talkshoe is still down

  • SWLostie said:

    RBWClaire (really bad wig)

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

So when did Claire become Rousseau

  • Jason Martin said:

As if finding out that Claire was claimed wasn’t bad enough, now she’s BACK?!?! WHAT THE HECK!

  • Colleen (author) said:

This was a really slow episode but it left us with a lot to think about. They’ve been talking about the “sickness” for such a long time now that I can’t believe it’s actually being addressed and in such a major way. Didn’t the Others/Ethan give Claire medication to keep her from getting the sickness? Is the Sickness what happens when you die and your body gets claimed/possessed by a spirit belong to MIL? I think that this season is going to be a complete and total WTF?!

  • M.G. said:

sayid infected with the bubonic pague???

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

That was a great interaction with Kate and Claire in the hospital, with Kate telling Claire she should keep the baby.

  • NaysWay said:

    Claire is the new Russo?

  • Colleen (author) said:

Alright, there’s roughly 30-40 minutes until they start recording so who’s got some great theories or comments?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Sayid has the sickness. Claire has the sickess. Claire was with Christian. What does that mean for Christian? Assuming the sickness has soemthing to do w/ Man IN Locke, does Christian have it and is he associated with it?

    Lots to think about

  • ChrisInBoston said:

    I’ve got nothin.

    wtf.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

So those complaining last season that they never told us was the sickness was can now stop complaining.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

So Robert and the other Frenchies were the ones that were “claimed” when they went into the temple. And Danielle was right they were sick, and she just went crazy.

  • SWLostie said:

Is Jack still talking about stalking…er meeting Evangeline? lol

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Boston - you always have something to say. Don’t tell me you have the sickness now too?

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Jlyn (and everyone else) How did Danielle avoid getting sick? How is the Sickness contagious? Any ideas?

  • NaysWay said:

Would help if I knew how to spell “Rousseau”. LOST Fail.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

There was too much Claire in this episode for my taste. I’ve been over Claire for a while now, ever since she didn’t morn for Charlie death’s. Anyway, the infection/darkness taking over people is interesting since it’s affecting two of our 815ers now. However, after all the Claire through out the episode, it wasn’t a shock to see her at the end, but it is weird that she has become Rosseau-like living in the wild and setting traps.

  • SWLostie said:

Thought..theory? The sickness and being “claimed” is the reason they bury the dead so quickly..or bury at sea…???

  • gustariana said:

The sickness.. finally explained!! It is what turns average people into excellent marksmen!!

it explains why everyone is a freaking sniper on the Island! (except Hurley!)

Claire got “claimed” went Rousseau on us and she can shoot 2 guys without even blinking!!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

So now since there really is a Sickness, I’m starting to think that the Others really were trying to help Claire when Ethan kidnapped her way back when.

Same goes for Des and Kelvin.

  • bikemtns said:

Slow episode and too many question for me.

  • ChrisInBoston said:

Only thing that I noticed, which probably means absolutely nothing….were the cars at the mechanic’s shop 3-4 years newer than they should have been.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@SWLostie - I think that’s why they bury their dead so quickly or send them out to sea.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Colleen - Did Danielle know abt the Medical Hatch before she rescued Claire? If she did she could have gone and raided some of that medication and just have been injecting herself. Or since she killed the rest of her team and presumably never went near the Temple again, she just wasn’t exposed to it.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

It seems that the sickness must only take affect after death, and it really is kind of like a vampire’s resurrection from the dead. The person that once was alive is dead, and they are replaced by a souless creature that has the meomories of the deceased, much like Man-in-Locke.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Matt - I think she did but I can’t remember. Claire was injected though, wasn’t she? And she still got infected…

  • SWLostie said:

I think that the medication had something to do with the radiation from Jughead.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Col were they injecting Claire or were they directly injecting unborn baby Aaron? I can’t remember.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Jimmy in GA oh goodness let’s not ever associate vampires with LOST ever again!

Though *if* the theory of someone being claimed means that their body is inhabited by something else after they die, then this is yet another case of Damon & Carlton basically telling us what was going to happen through their humor. Does anyone remember when I posted this question as a Lost discussion over the summer: http://yublog.org/2009/08/17/discussion-what-else-have-damon-carlton-told-us/

    Coincidence?

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Colleen I think when Robert and the other guy went into the Temple to go after Montand they got claimed. The only reason Danielle didn’t get infected is because Jin while time traveling told her not to go into the temple. Saving her from being infected. Or otherwise when they were in the temple and Jin disappeared did she get claimed during the timeline that we did not see because Jin disappeared into the flash. Does that make sense. It’s so hard to get a good theory out of your head to paper. lol

  • gustariana said:

I am wondering how selective this sickness is. Do those that are exposed to the Smoke Monster get it? Is this how the Smoke Monster takes over bodies? (Like he did Locke?)

We know the frenchmen had it but Rousseau never did, she was never really face to face with smokey was she?

btw, many people have complained of filler. The episode felt slower than the premiere but they can’t all be explosive. I think this one had a LOT of food for thought.

As for Kate.. I am kinda tired of Super Kate (Sorry Jack!)

  • ChrisInBoston said:

I really don’t know what to think about this episode. At first glance, I’m not sure how much, or if I liked the episode. Seemingly good reveals, more questions. I don’t want to think about anymore questions. Ok, yeah i do.

I think I need to re-watch this episode.

    brain hurts.

  • darthvader75 said:

I think the sickness and “possesion” by M-I-L are one in the same. I bet the sickness the pregnant women were suffering was the spirit of Esau or Man in Locke trying to inherit the new born baby. Smokie needed a new and purevessel in order to operate. The resurrection of a dead person could also represent a new life.Just a thought.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

The Zombie thing works too for the whole living dead thing as well, but either way it’s something inside of the body and not the someone it used to be.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

What if the whispers are spirits on the island and when someone dies the reason the dead need to buried so fast or put out to sea is because the spirit of a whisper finds the body and infects or claims the body as their own. Just a thought. Didn’t we hear whispers right before Sayid was taken into the temple.

  • darthvader75 said:

BTW in what ep was Aldo a young boy whe Kate hit him with a rifle.

  • Brookeloveslsot said:

ok is it completely obvious to anyone else that “the man inside Locke” has taken over Sayid and Claire!?!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Darth - It wasn’t when they were kids. It was in Season 3 when Kate and Sawyer and Alex broke Carl out of Room 23. Aldo was the guard.

  • Jimmy in GA said:

Season 3 - Not in Portland

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Jessica I like that theory. I don’t remember hearing whispers when Sayid was brought into the Temple, but I could have missed them. Gotta go rewatch for the umpteenth time now, haha.

  • ChrisInBoston said:

    Is it weird to say:

I don’t feel clean after that episode. I feel dissheveled. Used. I feel that I’m missing something.

  • darthvader75 said:

Oh in season three I thought he said 30yrs ago. LOL my bad i didnt think he looked 40-50ish sorry.

  • JimmyinGA said:

I want to hear Jay’s Claire impression on tonight’s podcast

  • Mac Ob (ohbee) said:

Theory: Rousseau was an Other. She died and was taken through the revival ritual. She became infected. The Others banished her to the jungle. Ben being the leader of the Others took Rousseau’s baby, Alex. Now Claire has become the same way. So is Christian also revived? He was hanging in the shack with her, afterall.

  • laurie said:

If Sayid remembers being shot, does that mean Ben does too?

  • Becky said:

Remember Clair disappeared & appeared in Jacob’s cabin with Christian(Jack’s Father). So does the other’s guy(Chinese guy) say that she is now on the Dark Side? Guy’s side with dark(black) shirt that encountered Jacob in White shirt on the beach.

  • JeffInPittsburgh said:

The only thing this episode needed was Danny Devito to time travel from it’s always sunny and fly out of a tree to save his boy Mac from “crazy hair” Claire. Oops, I just gave away a deleted scene for season 6 DVD.

  • etbass said:

Watching Sayid tonight got me thinking about what Richard said when Kate and Sawyer brought young Ben to the temple last season - he’ll loose his innocence and never be the same again

  • etbass said:

Jay’s Claire impersonation tonight “Give me back my bear trap!”

  • Shelley said:

Just a random observation but in the alt world Claire and Kate had the same “look” only Kate was the dark version and Claire was the light version.

Also am wondering if being “claimed” is the sickness Rousseau spoke of her team being infected with.

  • Tara said:

I thought that the scene with sawyer and kate on the dock was one of the best scenes I have ever seen Josh Holloway do. I was actually very moved by it.

  • laurie said:

@ Becky - Dogen is Japanese. I guess it’s a bit unclear what side is the “dark side” but I’d imagine he meant MIL because they’re keeping the Temple safe from his Smokey self.

I guess they’re aware of her presence if she’s been setting those traps ala Rousseau.

  • Molly said:

Did anyone else wonder what the dude meant when he said, “That French lady? She’s been dead for years …” I know that she would have actually been dead for like 3.5 years at that point, but the way he said it makes me think maybe he meant she died a looooong time before that. Like when the rest of her team did? Is this a weird alternate timeline thing, or am I reading too much into it?

  • Digby said:

I think the question of what the sickness is has become less clear than ever.

Claire seems to be walking the same path as Rousseau, but Rousseau killed her fellow Frenchmen because she thought they were sick. So was Rousseau really the sick one all along?

I’m going to stick with my theory that when people die they catch a glimpse of the other side. Maybe this awareness drives them insane. Sayid would likely be much happier if he could spend his life with Nadia. Maybe Claire did die in that burning building back in season 4?

  • Ellie said:

Okay, my little brother had an interesting theory about the flash sideways. Somehow maybe everything they are trying to right on the island will come about off island as it course corrects. Like Jack fixing Locke, Sayid helping save lives, Hurley having good luck etc. Just a vague thought, but interesting none the less.

  • laurie said:

@ Molly - I’d say just let it slide. They didn’t really pay attention to her at all for 16 years, so it may just feel like longer to them.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Molly - “She’s been dead for years” struck me as odd too. I paused for a second when he said it, but Kate didn’t question it so I just assumed he meant the 3+ years since Keamy & co killed her. But at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if she has been dead for longer than 3 years.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Ellie I think that it is course-correction to some degree too

  • JordanFromJersey said:

Great episode of LOST tonight! Here is my video review, now with 100% less diagrams!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoOQITrH9rs

  • Digby said:

I definitely think that unLocke/MIB are separate from the sickness.

When Claire and Sayid died (assuming they did) they came back to their own bodies.
They’ve made a point of showing that Locke’s body is still dead.

I don’t think the Smoke Monster/MIB is the sickness. Maybe Jacob is the Sickness though.

Brand New Spur of the Moment Theory: Richard and Ben are both Sick in the same way that Claire and Sayid are now.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Molly I also thought that it was odd how they said “She’s been dead for years.” I actually had to stop and think to myself to do the math and figure out how long it was.

Maybe Rousseau having the sickness is really why Ben stole Alex…

  • Digby said:

  • Mac Ob (ohbee) said:

If my theory above holds true then I would say that Rousseau was the one infected and her crew was sane. She must have heard them talking about her being infected but turned it around to saying they were infected to justify her killing them. I was really suspicious of that when we saw it play out last season. I wondered if she was the sick one.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Digby - Now *that* is a good point, how they’ve shown Locke’s dead body repeatedly. Can you imagine how crazy it would be if the sickness was Jacob?

OH! Maybe that’s why they freaked out so much when Hurley said Jacob was dead. They were afraid of him claiming Sayid?

  • laurie said:

@ Mac Ob - Good theory. But if she was sick…how did she get that way? Wouldn’t she have to die first? If so, what about baby Alex? She wouldn’t have been born yet.

  • Mac Ob (ohbee) said:

@laurie I think she did die. Maybe she died during pregnancy and the baby was ok. I don’t know. This just feels right. Being that Locke met up with Christian and Claire in the cabin when he was told to move the island I almost feel like MIB may be directing this. Hello Zombie season.

Just throwing this out there - Since we saw Ethan as a maternity doctor, its entirely possible that Juliet is working there with him like she was on The Island.

Thinking back to episode from season 2 What Kate Did, remember when she saw the black horse and Sawyer too? Any significance to tonight’s episode???

  • Ashley (author) said:

Have to say I enjoyed “What Kate Does” better than last week’s episode — but ONLY the island aspect. I DO think there is too much Kate — especially in flash sideways. To be honest, I really don’t like the whole LA aspect. Frainkly, I just DO NOT CARE what might have happened in LA had the plane landed. For me, I get antsy and want the Island storyline. I have been watching this show for six years to learn about the Mysterious Island. The ISLAND is THE main character to me, not a setting — and far more interesting that LA.

The LA flashes detract away (IMO) from the real story fans want — questions answered about the Island, Smokey, Jacob, and the whole destiny aspect of these people belonging on the island. Yes, Kate realizing she had victimized a pregnant woman in LA was touching, but GET BACK TO THE ISLAND!!!!

Speaking of Claire, I am intrigued by the Claire infected by Russo story arc. Now wondering ‘who’ has infected Sayid and IF they have to be bad. I’ve been thinking it’s Jacob. God help us if it’s Roger Linus. EEEK!

  • Erik said:

Awesome episode. Clairesseau, Mac, Sawyer’s ring (where did he find that, some dead woman?)

    Hope Sayid isn’t scewed : /

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Matt oh my, I hope so! I can’t wait to see Sideways Juliet.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Ashley - I am interested in LA for this sole reason: I really enjoy the parallels such as Ethan as Claire’s doctor. They intrigue me because I can’t figure out how fate was supposed to bring each person to interact with another both on and off-island but I do find it really interesting. I’m a sucker for that kind of mystery though lol

  • Ashley (author) said:

Just throwing this out there but anyone remember the original Star Trek episode “Mirror Mirror” where there were two Spocks and two Captain Kirks. The whole alternate reality deal that happened with the “transporter” problem. What if that is what happened when the bomb detonated…some sort of split where TWO realities (possibly three if the island is really destroyed underwater).

But it does bring relevance to the flash sideways in LA. So, two Kates, two Sawyers, two Hurleys, etc. And we see by the whole flash sideways aspect that ALL of them were destined to know each other whether the plane crashed or not.

Hmm. Okay, re-thinking my ‘not’ liking the LA flash sideways now. LOL

  • Ashley (author) said:

@Colleen - Destiny does play an integral part in LOST. I guess I was looking at the flash sideways to LA like an impatient child who wants the answers about the Island NOW! I didn’t consider that it isn’t a ‘what if’ scenario but a parallel reality to what is happening now on the Island. I hope I’m on the right track because if they confuse me again, my brain will explode. lol

  • laurie said:

I like the flash-sideways. I just don’t really like Kate (in large doses anyway)…. I hope in future episodes we see more of everyone else (like Locke! Sawyer!), and less Kate.

Arzt showing up again was okay, but I’ll be bothered if he keeps showings up (and not blowing up).

  • Digby said:

I came back to reject my own theory.

If the Sickness is just devotion to Jacob then Richard wouldn’t be Sick because he and Dogen wouldn’t be on the same side would they?

Were the others serving Jacob reluctantly?

Given the reference to Kirkegard, I think Gnosticism might be important here.
It’s basically the belief that the Old Testament God hated humanity and is in conflict with the loving New Testament God. (I don’t agree with it personally, but it seems like it might be relevant.)

Here’s something I thought of after seeing the recap:

They made a point to remove Sayid’s (white/light colored) coveralls and showed him wearing (a black) t-shirt and jeans. I think they’re hinting at some kind of dark/light good/evil thing again. Kinda like the darkness within is being masked by something

  • tony macaroni said:

i have a feeling aaron is going end up being ‘jacob’ somehow

  • Colleen (author) said:

    @Tony - why is that?

  • Ashley (author) said:

@Digby — Interesting. After all, didn’t MIL tell the ‘others’, “I’m very disappointed in all of you.” And he certainly was upset with Richard for his loyalty to Jacob. Was that loyalty and ‘rank’ as one of Jacob’s followers purchased by betraying MIL?

  • Dort said:

I agree with Ashley about wanting more answers about the island(mystery) and not caring so much about the LA saga.

I was wondering about the ‘little Ben’ taken to the temple–will never be the same–and Sayid taken to the temple water//also?will never be the same?

One thing I’m glad for — the DVR so I can skip the fr***ing commercials [and the too many Kate bits I don’t care to see–it’s like a “Kate-rewind-retold-again” thingy.
I also want to know what MIL will do with Alpert. Hold him hostage to trade for Sayid????

  • Alex in Alabama said:

If Artz had been hit by that car, I think I would’ve laughed. He and Kenny from South Park are the only people I can’t help but laugh when they die. But seriously, I think the infection actually creates a different person by affecting their personality. Claire was a sweetheart pre-infection and now appears to be a cold-blooded killer only trying to survive. Sayid was a cold-blooded killer trying to survive and I believe will be the example of peace on the island. Just a theory, but they keep bringing up how he was a torturer and murderer more often than they have in the past. This may be his chance for redemption.

  • Ashley (author) said:

@laurie — LOL I do like Kate, but…yes…more Sawyer, Locke, etc. It did break my heart to see Sawyer cry when talking about Juliet and that some people were just meant to be alone. His character has come so far from when he first came to the island. Kate’s reaction when he walked away was interesting as well. Was she crying because she realized he truly loved Juliet and she’d lost him, OR was she crying because (like him) she is also meant to be alone?

  • Brat from East Lansing said:

I’m getting a bad feeling about the others and Jacob. The Man in Locke talks about freedom from servitude, while “What about you” Jacob seems to be tricking people to the Island. The Others are too quick in killing people, like a person’s life has no value unless its in the service of the Island or Jacob. I mean the Others wanted to pop a cap in Jin for nothing. Jin’s foot is stuck in a freaking bear trap and the “Douchey Guy” from the Others wants to shoot him, even when told Jin has important to play. I’m glad annoying people never survive their episodes. Nice shooting Claire.

  • Ashley (author) said:

@Dort - You know what scene pushed me to the limits of Kate “I Am Woman Hear Me Roar” Austen endurance? When, even though being knocked unconscious, she managed to keep her balance on that tree branch. I know she’s athletic, but her body surely would have rolled off unless she is related to Mowgli from Jungle Book. :D

  • Colleen (author) said:

okay before I call it a night, I wanted to explain what my reasonings were for being on Team Jacob (ha) vs. Team MIB over the summer. You know how when you’re a kid and your parents tell you they know what’s best for you while your friends all tell you what’s most fun or appealing to you? Then you grow up and realize “Crap, my parents were right all along” ? That’s kinda how I related the Jacob/MIB relationship - that MIB had the seemingly better option that made more sense while Jacob offered the wisdom/parental option.

Who knows now if I am right but that’s the impression I got early on.

  • NaysWay said:

I’m starting to agree with those that say Jacob may not be good. So far, he’s made none of his motives clear and uses people like pawns. Even his own trusted followers are ready to shoot the Losties on a whim. That doesn’t seem God-like to me. At least FLocke is (eerily) straightforward. He’s lost faith in humanity and wants to go home. Period.

And those “infected”… So far, Christian, Claire, Sayid, Ben (I may be missing someone?). All people who’ve died but come back to life for some reason. Are they considered infected because they’re on Team FLocke? Are they not really infected, just termed that way because they aren’t a Jacob follower?

Finally got finished with the episode via DVR. I just skimmed through the comments.

Still not sure what to think of this episode. Some good reveals, though seemingly not enough. Seems like a bridge episode. Not really filler, but I guess in the wake of last week, this episode was bound to seem tamer unless they continued the same pace as last week.

Just some thoughts/comments that I had as the episode progressed:

-Totally missed last week that the cab driver was the “puppet master/ marionette guy” from Heroes.
-Arzt being Arzt. First time he’s appeared more than once in one season.
-Sawyer totally has nothing to lose now.
-Hey! It’s Mac from Always Sunny!! Where’s Charlie?? Haha.
-Is the mechanic the guy who played Dodger in China Beach?
-Didn’t Aaron have that same killer whale back when he was living with Kate?
-This is the Zombie season, haha.
-Snap! Jin giving it to Kate as to her intentions.
-So is the identity of the husband who ran out on the wife important or no?
-Looks like there are definite linkages b/w flashsideways and the way thing were originally. Kate’s gonna be there for Claire for Aaron’s birth as well.
-Uh, okay is that Jack’s Hospital? Jack’s a surgeon, not an ER doc or OB-Gyn.
    -5 bucks says Juliet is Claire’s OB-Gyn.
    -Holy shit, it’s Ethan!!!
-Sawyer throwing the ring = Maverick tossing Goose’s dog tags
    -Mac’s getting really annoying now.
    -CLAIRE???

Not sure what to think about this sickness thing. Am guessing it’s Man-In-Locke related. But part of me thinks otherwise. Is Claire the new Danielle? Were Claire and Danielle infected by some outside entity or did they get tossed into the pool and were infected that way? I’m confused.

Jin seems to have bad luck running into weird, creepy, crazy-looking native-ish people. First it was the Tailies in Season 2, then Crazy Danielle after the flash last season, and now Claire. Can’t the island give him a break? He’s just trying to find his wife and daughter. If anything happens to him and Sun and/or Hurley, I’ll be royally pissed.

Ditto with Kate ending up with Sawyer. Sawyer’s too good for her. If I were Sawyer, I’d dig up Juliet and toss her into the pool, blackness creeping inside be damned, rather than shack up with Kate.

That’s all my thoughts so far. Will definitely have to watch this one again.

  • Ashley (author) said:

@Brat from East Lansing — Compelling theory; I’m also wondering if MIL is NOT the evil one. I mean Jacob targeted Sawyer when he was a little boy and had just lost his parents. He pretty much put Sawyer on the course to seek revenge. Does a nice person do that? Was Jacob the puppetmaster playing God and has MIL finally cut the strings? As Spock would say, “Fascinating.”

  • NaysWay said:

Sorry for the double post. System froze up on me :o)

  • Ashley (author) said:

@ManilaRaf - “If I were Sawyer, I’d dig up Juliet and toss her into the pool, blackness creeping inside be damned, rather than shack up with Kate.” LMAO I actually thought the idea briefly crossed Sawyer’s face after Sayid came back to life. I loved his snarky comment about how Sayid was a torturer and baby killer, why shouldn’t he get another chance at life. I especially LOVE that Sawyer couldn’t be bothered with Kate after she followed him, telling her to go back to the temple then ignoring her when she was refilling her canteen. Snap!

  • ManilaRaf said:

Okay, this darkness that’s consumed Claire and is consuming Sayid…

-Was it due to the Temple Water?

-If yes, how was Claire infected? (And for that matter, was Danielle infected as well? I mean she’s the other crazed & disheveled, rifle-toting person that we know of in the history of the island).
-If yes, we assume that Ben was also immersed in the pool, so did a darkness consume him as well? Or did he really “pass the test” or were the tests instituted after Ben? I mean Richard said Ben wouldn’t be the same as Dogen warned Jack & company.

-If it wasn’t due to the Temple water, how did Claire get infected? Are we to assume that “Christian” was the route of infection?
-And if that’s the case, is the resurrection process in itself how you get infected?

  • ManilaRaf said:

Christ! Someone pointed this out on the Transmission blog comments for this episode.

I went back to the video and confirmed it.

The date on Claire’s Ultrasound printout (at the top right of the printout) has the date as 10-22-2004 at 09:29:42AM.

Ugh, did they lose a month somehow or did the prop department do a goof?

That’s actually interesting if the plane is a month later. Because there are differences from this plane to the 815 plane. Maybe this isn’t Oceanic 815.

Ok, so if Smokey is infecting the bodies, why are there TWO bodies of Locke one dead, (lying in the Shadow of the Statue…if the statue was still standing) and the other walking around who is even able to access Locke’s memories; while the other ones who have been claimed or infected,( perhaps,Claire, Christian and Sayid) have only one bodily manifestation of them.
Are we now learning the “sides” of the war that is to come: the infected vs the non-infected? Will the Losties have to kill their friends????? Please no Carleton and Damien!!!!!

  • James said:

Its funny: I didnt think this was a slow episode AT ALL. I actually really enjoyed it, even though now I’m done I am literally beyond confused about the Sickness. It felt as I was watching that we knew so much more about it now, but we really don’t. All we know is that Claire has it, Sayid has it, and Ben and Rousseau MIGHT have it.

  • James said:

In regards of the Ultrasound: that HAS to be a goof. Its got to be…. I’m not sure I can handle having to figure out a new dateline…

  • carol said:

@James - I think the date on the ultrasound is significant, otherwise why show it? They want us to note the date and the difference. I don’t think the director would make a mistake that huge.

@mamapax - I agree with you, I don’t want to have to choose sides with people I care about on both sides.

Right now, I don’t see anything good about Jacob’s people. They kidnap, kill, torture, and dismiss anybody not on their side. Like most religious zealots they think they are the good guys, but maybe they aren’t.

  • carol said:

Crackpot theory - all the people in the flash sideways will all regain their memories and seek each other out. Not sure how this plays out with what is going on with the island right now. Maybe when they all “remember” the new timeline and personality changes will occur in the present timeline characters and they will be different people on the island and finally be able to put an end to what is going on in the island.

  • Brian said:

Why didn’t Clare deliver the baby?

How in heck did Kate drive that car around LA all day and not get busted? Was it a furlough day for the LAPD?

Obviously there are connections being established. Last week it was Jack and Wheel-chair Locke. This week, Kate and Claire.

Sayid is “infected.” It’s made to appear he is a bad guy, but I’m not buying it. Infection is a matter of perception and who is doing the preceiving.

Of course, there’s the final shot of “Rouseau” Claire. I think Hurley is on to something with the Zombie crack. He has a knack for nailing what’s true.

    Dude.

  • Steve said:

After watching this alternate timeline so far, my best theory is that this is what happens if the bomb didn’t go off. When the characters jumped from 1977 to present, their ears were ringing, as if the bomb started to explode right as they flashed. Maybe this alt timeline is what happened if Jacob didn’t go back and touch people. I think the bomb stopped the incident, and if it didn’t go off the pocket implodes enough to sink the island.

How does this explain Ethan though? He would have gotten off the island in the evacuation, but the only reason he exists is because Sawyer and Juliet saved Amy in 1974.. maybe Amy would have escaped anyway.

Also I’ve noticed the numbers aren’t in the alt timeline at all. The airport security called a code 341.. we’re so used to seeing the numbers everywhere but I have yet to see any in the flash sideways. It’s probably a clue that the numbers are only in the Jacob-manipulated timeline.

Sayid being “sick” and us finding crazy Claire is typical Lost fluff. I was kinda hoping since they had a van now we wouldn’t see as much trudging through the jungle. The premiere moved so fast it was a bit difficult to accept this slower pace.. but hey it’s Lost and I can’t really complain. ;)

  • Cucumber Jones said:

What if “claimed” means that when someone is dying, the two sides are trying to “take over” and whichever side gets there first (either good or evil) eventually does take over? So Sayid will still be Sayid, but the evil side resurrected him so he will be inherently evil from now on (not that he wasn’t before). The same thing could be said for what happened to Ben, and what presumably happened to Claire. But perhaps Dogen was using Claire only as an example of what “claiming” meant when explaining to Jack; maybe she was claimed by the good side.

But I think the key here is they must be DYING, and not already DEAD. So I don’t think Christian was “claimed.” I think he was just used as a vessel for DWG to speak to people, the way he’s been using Locke and has previously used Alex and Yemi. This doesn’t explain why his body is missing, but I still get the feeling he was used by DWG in that manner. DWG was posing as Christian, then once Ajira 316 hits the island, he starts posing as Locke. Have we even seen Christian on-island since then?

I’m still confused by all of this, but maybe this is why DWG needed dead Locke to have something belonging to Christian. Remember while posing as Locke, he put on Christian’s shoes before stepping onto the island when he and Ben were on the dock in Dead is Dead? Perhaps he did so metaphorically.

As for Rousseau, I think her team was “infected” in this way, but she was not. She was a little crazy, but definitely not sick.

I also just noticed this while browsing Lostpedia: “In the March 21, 2008 edition of the Official Lost Podcast, Damon says the Medusa spiders were a form of the Monster.” That is something I never knew before. Perhaps she too was actually claimed?

  • Jeff in Texas said:

@Cucumber - we saw Christian when Sun and Lapidus made it to the desserted compound after the Ajira crash.

  • Cucumber Jones said:

@Jeff - Damn, you’re right. BUT we still have never seen them simultaneously, correct? I like my theory too much to disregard it :(

  • tony macaroni said:

so the powder that was blown over sayid was probably the gunpowder or ash that the Smoke monster can’t cross?

So apparently the smoke monster is vunerable to electricity too?

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Tony - that’s a good observation and the electricity part may explain the sonic fence and why whoever was in the cabin didn’t like technology…

  • carol said:

@Colleen and Tony - good theory. But the confusing part is that electricity hurts humans as well, so how does Dogen tell the difference between Smokey pain and human pain? I thought he was putting gunpowder on him and was nervous he was going to light it up as they did Charlie’s wound in Season 1. I like the idea that it may have been ash not gunpowder.
