lost-matthew-fox

It’s time to share our questions, comments, and theories about this week’s episode of Lost, called “Lighthouse”.  Will this episode shed more light on the “Sickness,” where Claire has been and what’s happening with Sayid?  What about our newfound knowledge about “the numbers”?

Warning: This post WILL contain spoilers, so if you haven’t watched Lost yet, you will be spoiled!

[Editor's note: Due to some Internet troubles at work today, I was unable to upload the pictures of Matthew Fox from Sunset on the Beach.  My apologies!  They are all ready and set to go up tomorrow (Wednesday Feb. 24) morning, so please check back then!]

Jin was on the freighter when it blew up … he didn’t know that Aaron was on the helicopter with kate

I would consider marrying Jack simply to live in that sick nasty apartment…

  • Marc Williams said:

so this is the first time we hear about this david kid right?

  • Will said:

True, but he was at least learning English in 2004 so it might not be a surprise to Claire because of that

  • Luckybrand1212 said:

    and the mother is…

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Who is David’s mom?

  • Jillian said:

Wouldn’t he know through Sawyer? They were on the island for 3 years…

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

10 bucks says Penny’s the mother!

  • Marc Williams said:

i wonder who the mother is..

  • slicevls said:

Wow, jack is as good a parent as Kate.

  • ManilaRaf said:

    10 Bucks it’s Libby

  • Mark Heil said:

Jack’s scar is on the wrong side! Is he a mirror image?

  • fawkes said:

dont you break apart Dez and Penny!!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    I’m gonna go Anna Lucia

  • ManilaRaf said:

Old school indeed. Brings back Season 1 memories

  • Colleen said:

Oh, I hope Penny’s not the mother! It’s probably Sarah and they aren’t showing Julie Bowen because she was too busy being awesome on Modern Family lol

  • ManilaRaf said:

@Mark. It was on his right side and he was looking into a mirror.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

Seriously?!! How did they never see that

  • ManilaRaf said:

    Hahaha!

How come we’ve never seen it before?

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

My words exactly Jack…lol I just said tht.

Woah Claire and Juliet are both branded.

  • Marc Williams said:

why did he wait so long to tell her!! lol

  • Will said:

Jin knows. She’s probably gonna go crazy when she sees Kate.

  • fawkes said:

i was hoping Clair would kill him!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    So Jin knew abt Aaron

Whoa. Alright. New rule: Don’t piss off Claire

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

Claire vs. Kate = ultimate LOST Catfight

  • ManilaRaf said:

@Jlyn: I think the brand is the same test that Sayid went through the other weak. The hot poker to the skin after the spreading of ashes.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

My jaw hasn’t been on the ground like that since Michael shot Libby and Ana Lucia.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

My money’s on Claire….that is unless Kate climbs in a tree and hides

  • Kelly Jo said:

I’m calling it Claire is going to kill Kate

  • Mark Heil said:

More hints at the idea of a mirror image: Jack looking at his reflection in the water, and David reading Alice Through the Looking Glass!

  • Marc Williams said:

so i guess that wasn’t really hr kate saw off-island that night in aaron’s room when she told kate she couldn’t bring him back.

  • Jillian said:

Everyone on this show has serious daddy issues.

  • Colleen said:

@Mark Heil - Good catch! I like that idea of the mirror image

  • ManilaRaf said:

Looks like the same Hawaii location they shot Hurley about to jump into the seas in dave and where Ben showed Sawyer the view from Alcatraz.

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

THE PIANO HAD THE SAME SYMBOL AS THE ONE ON THE TEMPLE WALL!!!!!!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Is Jack gonna cry?

  • ManilaRaf said:

10 bucks one of the recital judges is Ben.

  • Stefanie said:

The hurley and jack discussion walking through the jungle… is this the first time that the losties actually talked to each other about waht they know…. never saw a conversation like that in the first 5 seasons.

    OH SNAP!!!

  • Luckybrand1212 said:

    OMG!!!!!! Sideways Dogen

  • Marc Williams said:

    so who is that guy?

  • ManilaRaf said:

    108 degrees!!!

  • Luckybrand1212 said:

Looks like an unfrozen donkey wheel

  • Marc Williams said:

    108!

  • fawkes said:

    108!

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

    woah…all the crossed off names!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Are those names crossed out next to the degree markings?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Yes they are

  • ManilaRaf said:

    Korean temple reflection

And each of the degree headings is a name.

    More screencaps.

  • fawkes said:

i saw austen on the numbers!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    So that mirror is weird.

  • ManilaRaf said:

    So who’s Number 108????????

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    The Looking Glass…….

  • slicevls said:

Kate was not invited? Claire looking for Kate now. Can’t end well for Kate.

  • Colleen said:

Holy crap that is creepy! (Jack’s childhood house)

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

So will they show us 108 please

  • Colleen said:

    CRY JACK, CRY!

  • ManilaRaf said:

Oh yeah Jack, think without acting again.

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

JACK YOU SON OF A BITCH!

  • Will said:

Jack is impulsive. Who is 108?

  • Jillian said:

Did we ever find out the “composer” that created the song that unlocked the signal from the looking glass? Could it be David?!

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    Wow…Jack is pissed.

  • fawkes said:

i really thought hurley was a gonner

  • Patty said:

    Who’s 108!???? Please tell us!!!!

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

So did Jacob specifically tell Hurley to bring Jack b/c he knew Jack would react like that and wanted the mirror broken? But if thats the case, why not just tell Hurley to break the mirrors. I’m talking myself out of my own theories here…

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

Ok so seriously. The symbol on the brick that hurley had to find the secret passage, was the same symbol on the front of the piano David was playing.

  • Vradi said:

    I’m calling it now.. 108 - Hume

  • Tolbert5 said:

Did anybody see who was 108?

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

I think thats exactly what Jacob wanted Jack there for. Fake Locke enlightened Sawyer so Jacob countered that move by letting Jack see the truth. It really is like a game and they are all the players

  • Marc Williams said:

    i wonder who’s name is 108?

  • ManilaRaf said:

Jack, you idiot, do you really need the million years of bad luck you’ve incurred upon yourself?

  • Kelly Jo said:

You see it’s episodes like these that make me hate Jack.

  • Laura said:

More questions instead of answers! Darlton’s driving me crazy.

  • noelle said:

now jack will never know if his crackpot theory was right!! oh the horror!!

  • Colleen said:

@fawkes - where did you see her? If you or anyone finds it, let me know so I can text it to them before they start recording since it’s been a big topic of podcasting lately. They start around 10:45pm EST

  • ManilaRaf said:

Okay, do any of the guys out there use body wash? I’m an unrepentant bar soap user.

  • Kelly Jo said:

@Raf best comment of the night

  • noelle said:

did anybody see exactly what jack saw in the mirror? i missed it

  • Colleen said:

@noelle - he saw his childhood home

  • Kelly Jo said:

@Raf I meant that for the mirror comment

  • fawkes said:

so…by jacob wanting Jack to break the mirrors, Jacob didnt want the visitor to come to the island?

  • Colleen said:

OH FYI - this “V” commercial about “Lost” played at Sunset on the Beach before the premiere started.

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

    @Raf….i’m a bodywash-er

  • Marc Williams said:

seriously, a little more investigation next time, JACK!

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

So Jacob was following them all along, that’s how he got them all to the island, by playing with their lives. So that’s what DWG meant by asking Jacob how he got them all to the island.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

@Raf body wash only on my face. bar soap for the rest

  • fawkes said:

@Colleen i think it was just as Hurley was pulling the cord…right around there…i may have just been too excited and made it up but i dont have a DVR to play it back :(

  • noelle said:

no i mean the first time. it was some dark color. i thought maybe it was a ship. it was before he turned it to 23.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Bring on the waterworks, Jack

  • Will said:

    is jack about to cry

  • Marc Williams said:

maybe jack had to be there, because hurley could have been tempted by the dark side, so to speak, if he went out alone.

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

did hurly just rub off some of the directions on his forehead?

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

    the ink keeps moving!

  • Colleen said:

@fawkes I’ll try to go back and find it right around that time. Thank you!

  • ManilaRaf said:

Jacob reminds me a lot of Obi Wan Kenobi. Talks in riddles. Appears from time to time to certain people. Sees things from a certain point of view.

    stop the lies, jin

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Kate is a dead woman.

    LOCKE!

  • Marc Williams said:

    ohh FUCK!!

  • fawkes said:

oh god of course they couldnt say his name…

  • Laura said:

    John & Claire = CREEPY!

  • ManilaRaf said:

So where the hell is Sawyer?

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    SAY HIS NAME!!!!!!!!!!

  • Patty said:

This is my friend…..WHO…. what is his name!!!!?

  • Birger said:

Listener since your first episode, first time poster (?)! Anyway, great episode, though not as mindblowing as last week’s.

The parallels between Season 1 and Season 6 are really starting to become clear now. All of the corresponding episodes have had the same “centric-ness” (if you count both the Pilot and LA X as multicentric) but the general themes and situations are aligned too. Like for tonight’s episode: “White Rabbit” is where we first discover the caves and see Adam and Eve and, after an absence of several seasons, we finally see them both again “Lighthouse”. It really seems like the flashsideways are where we finally find the characters’ redemption. Kate, previously set entirely on running away, learns to stick with someone through her experiences with Claire. Locke finally comes to terms with his disability. Jack learns to deal with his own daddy-issues through his relationship with his son.
These parallels beg the question of how long they can keep this up though. Next week could certainly be Sun-centric and, assuming Charlie gets an episode, most of the first half of S1 centric-ness would work pretty well (Sun, Charlie, Sawyer, Sayid, Claire, in that order). However, Hurley’s episode would be nowhere to be found and we also have to keep in mind Richard or even Jacob/Smocke-centric episodes.

It would appear that Claire talking about “her friend” (Man in Locke) and “her father” (Christian) as separate people would indicate that Christian was never a manifestation of Smokey. However, I think it’s more likely Man in Locke was simply using both personas to interact with Claire and convince her that the Others have Aaron (two people are more persuasive than one).

    Other thoughts:
    - The fact that Hurley points out the popular theory that Adam and Eve are main characters having time-travelled can either be a giant red-herring by the producers or a not-so-subtle acknowledgement that fan theories about Adam and Eve have been right all along. Either way, we’ll hopefully find out soon!
    - Claire’s Fake-Baby-Skull-Thing = Polar Bear Skull? (certainly look similar, though one’d have to wait for screencaps to confirm: http://www.alaska-in-pictures.com/data/media/2/bear-skull_960.jpg)
    - Hurley seems to confirm that Kate isn’t important to Jacob after all. I guess it’s because she didn’t follow Jacob’s instructions to “Be Good, Katie” (blowing up your dad isn’t really good).
    - Nice touch: Key to Sarah’s house hidden under a white rabbit
    - Jack’s final scene with “David” and with the mirrors in the lighthouse was amazing acting by Matthew Fox. So many Emmy-worthy performances this Season - loving it!

    One more thing:
Claire stopped saying MAIII BAYBEEE and started saying “My Son!” … let’s hope to not have a Michael-esque thing going on.

  • ManilaRaf said:

    Hey it’s Bernard!!!

    The Subway conductor!!!

  • noelle said:

haha bernard is on the next show

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Ha ha I found Bernard…He’s on the Forgotten.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

How did they get out of the cave if the ladder broke? Did Sawyer ride on the Smoke Monster like a magic carpet

  • Colleen said:

    Oh…no…

I really think that Jacob/MIL have a God/Devil thing going on. I had a 7 hour plane ride back from London to NY and 3 more hours worth of flights from NY to Raleigh and out of all the shows I listened to and theories that I read during that time, I tend to agree with the people who point out the way that the devil and MIL have similar ways of operating…

  • noelle said:

man i thought claire’s friend would be the 3rd player in the game. ugh! but what does it mean that she recognizes the locke-ness monster as itself but he’s been around for the past 3 yrs? so confused!

  • Jillian said:

I’m not a big fan of the teaser promo.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Or he left Sawyer in the cave

  • M.G. said:

that ending makes perfect sense. Not many answers though. we need fake Locke’s name!!!

  • fawkes said:

@ noelle good question, has he always been Locke to Claire?

  • noelle said:

lol. i thought the promo was funny. like there was some error or something. haha “we can only show you a few seconds” whatever…

  • Patty said:

Jacob has grown a lot on me in this past episode.

  • noelle said:

@fawkes maybe he is appearing to her as himself, but to everyone else as locke?

  • ManilaRaf said:

What if Man In Locke needs whoever is coming from outside as a way off the island/a way to “get home”??

  • miscellaneousme said:

Don’t even have words to describe my feelings right now…Must go watch again. : ) My initial reaction is Whaaaaat??!!

  • Chris said:

So I paused the ‘ol DVR, and 108 appears to be “Wallace” and is crossed off…

    Even funnier is 109…”Friendly”

  • noelle said:

who do we know as wallace?

  • ManilaRaf said:

    Note to self.

When trapped on an island in the South Pacific, fully explore all parts of the island. That way, I will not be surprised 5 Seasons later that there is an Alexandria-like Lighthouse on said island.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Could Walt be a shorter name for Wallace?

  • ManilaRaf said:

    Wallace?

Does that mean Mel Gibson is coming?

  • Stan said:

Claire referred to her father AND her “friend.” Then she clearly knew that MIL was NOT Locke. It seems strange that if MIL was Christian she wouldn’t recognize him as her “friend” when she knows MIL is not Locke. Are they hinting that Christian is not MIL or is Claire clueless and MIL was playing a game w/ her?

@Birger: Great analysis. Good catch about Claire’s “father” and “friend” being two different people. Although it’s probably going to end up being Smokey in two personas, I’m wondering if Claire can see him as HIM and not as Christian Shephard and John Locke. She didn’t even seem to recognize him as Locke.

P.S. Your last sentence made me laugh lol

    CRACKPOT THEORY!!!! :D

Man in Locke is not a man at all….. It is a woman! Adam and Eve are the original Jacob and MIL (i.e. the black and white stones)…. Because we were never really told that the MIB we saw in the season 5 finale was his original body. He (/she) could be a woman… you never know…..

I’m probably wrong, and reading it back makes me realize how ridiculous this sounds… but oh well :D

Crazy episode. When I saw the names around the wheel, and then Korea in the mirror I flipped out! I’m kind of starting to get the feeling that Kate might bite the dust by the end of the show… not only is she not one of the candidates, but if she meets up with Claire… well Claire has obviously blown a fuse, and any reunion between those two probably won’t end well if the truth comes out about Aaron!

    Other thought:

The reflections we saw in the mirror: IMO, the first two could be the site of Sun/Jin’s wedding and the church where young Sawyer was writing the letter after the funeral. In other words, the places where Jacob touched them. Since “Shephard” at 23 showed some place other than we saw Jacob touch Jack, could Jacob have touched another Shephard at that house (Christian or now David)?

  • 5000 said:

    Austen is 51

  • Nana said:

Ok, Im wondering if Claire, being infected, CAN SEE Man in Locke’s true appearance and that is why she tell’s Jin that “He’s NOT John! He’s my friend!”. Also…John left the Island for the 3 years she was living out there on her own, so Man in Locke has been keeping her company all that time….did he embody someone else as he waited for John? Was he previously in Cristopher’s body (which is why Claire thinks she was with her dad and why he told her the same lie about Aaron being at the temple)?

Also, WHY do we NOT see Jack’s baby momma? Could she be someone we know…well?

Really liked the lighthouse story and all it’s implications. We got one more tidbit about these numbers that Jacob seems to like so much and let’s face it, that was one cool prop! (I bet it’s what the prop master was talking about when he mentioned his fav prop was part of S6 at the HIFF last October ;P)

And lastly, I have to mention that I was in Hawaii when they were working on this episode and I watched THE ENTIRE lighthouse scene being filmed. Jack, Hurley and Jacob, the set, all of it. It took me 40 mins to hike a damn mountain to find them and I almost died of sunstroke and returned home with a nasty sunburs but it was SO worth it. Seeing how they put it together for the show, how different some things are…it was just that much more special.

Never been a Jack fan (Im a Ben girl) but I have to say he won some points today. I like this new Jack. And I loved him being a dad in ALt universe. Also can SOMEONE PLEASE KILL KATE ALREADY! lol Kidding

All in all a great episode

  • Stefanie said:

one of the reflections looked like the church where Sawyer’s parents’ funeral was.

  • Chris from RI said:

btw, whats with the ‘infection’ that was talked about? It seems clear that Smokey can’t be in Locke and Claire, so there is something odd going on. What kind of cool-aid are these people drinking?

  • ManilaRaf said:

So how do we work out what was revealed in this episode regarding Claire with the vision Kate had off island of Claire? “Don’t bring him back? Don’t you dare bring him back!”

Does Man In Locke somehow target or kill children? Does he need them for something?

Is that why Kate was warned not to bring Aaron back?

MIL could have easily taken Aaron by not letting Claire leave Aaron in the jungle for Sawyer to find.

Secondly, are we to assume that Man In Locke and Christian are “on the same side”? Or is he with Jacob, or is he a third force?

  • miscellaneousme said:

Does anyone have any screencaps for the names/numbers in the lighthouse?

  • Molly said:

@Colleen re: god/devil - I’m pretty firmly convinced, and have been since last season, that Jacob/MIL and the Losties are playing out some type of Job-type scenario, like in the Bible. In that story, the devil and God sort of made a bet - the devil thought he could get Job, who was very faithful to God, to renounce his faith if the devil took away his home, family, money, etc. God said Job would never lose his faith. So he gave the devil sort of free reign to do all these terrible things to Job, to test him and see if he could get him to crack - in the end, Job remained faithful to God. I see a lot of parallels between that story and Lost …

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

    So I kinda have a Crackpot Theory….

The “They” Jacob is referring to when he said “They’re Coming” is a new batch of candidates.

    Among those candidates will be:

    Aaron
    Ji Yeon
    David
    Walt

  • 5000 said:

ok just got here, so i dont know if anybody has already said that, but i realized tonight that maybe the smoke thing, or “man in locke” can only take the form of someone who has died, for example christian shepard or locke and it makes me think if there have been others the smoke monster has imitated throughout the seasons?? hmmm.

Does anyone think that maybe Locke was inhabited by MIL a really long time ago?? Like maybe when he encountered the smoke monster back in season 1 or 2 (can’t remember)…

  • ManilaRaf said:

    @cateshane

I’ve always wondered about Hurley’s friend Dave. Was it Hurley’s gift of seeing dead people? Was it Jacob or was it MIL?

And what about Harper? Goodwin’s wife.

  • cateshane said:

@SWLostie why is everybody saying that?! what is your logic??????? if this is a flash sideways, juliet would’ve been on the island while jack was in australia and throughout that kid’s whole life.

  • ManilaRaf said:

@Stefanie: Can’t be Season 1. Remember when Ecko was killed by Smokey. Locke was in the (Can’t remember which) Station underground with Sayid, Nikki, Paulo, et al.

  • ManilaRaf said:

@cateshane: Ben is in California teaching and Ethan’s in California as an OB-GYN. Juliet’s in Miami doing her research. She’s not on the island. The island’s underwater in the flash sideways world.

  • Stefanie said:

here’s something that I haven’t heard anyone discuss. Do the losties on the island now have the memories of the flash sideways losties? or the memories that they have always had.

Also… In “the substitute” when Randy Nation’s mentions that Locke is saving his vacation until October for his wedding is a bit wierd since Claire’s ultrasound says that it is already october…. are we sure that all of the flash sideways are occuring in the same timeframe?

  • Chris from RI said:

@ManilaRaf — It seems like Smokey had killed people maybe after their was no more use for them? But didn’t Ben summon Smokey so that he could be judged in season 5? Does that mean that Ben still had a purpose on the island that would help him? Ben was team Jacob when he was with the others.

  • miscellaneousme said:

    @Stefanie, Thanks!

  • Chris said:

Totally agree about the names being freshly written. Except for some reason, Austen looks the same as the non-losties. Also, as others mentioned, the scenes are definitely where Jacob touched people. Jin & Sun’s wedding, Sawyer’s parent’s funeral. but Jack was touched at a hospital. Did Jacob touch Christian, too. I have to go back and check last week’s episode, but I recall Sawyer, upon seeing “Shephard” on the wall said “The Doc,” and MIL’s response was “He’s not the only one.” I really believe now that that statement had a double meaning. Sawyer took it to mean, He’s not the only one of your friends. While, MIL meant it to mean He’s not the only Shephard.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

@Stefanie Darlton already said that date on the ultrasound was a prop error it should have said Septemeber instead of October

@miscellaneousme Yea I totally forgot about Clementine!

    For those playing at home:

    Aaron
    Walt
    Charlie
    Clementine
    David
    Ji Yeon

The Losties kids are the “They” in Jacob’s “They’re Coming”

  • cateshane said:

@manilaraf oh damn youre right i forgot about that youre totally right it could be juliet. but i’m still not entirely convinced because the kid had to be preexisting. like i feel like he’s been a secret part of jack’s life this whole time, there’s no way their flight could effect their pasts.

  • Fishbizcit said:

I think Kate’s a goner. She basically said goodbye to Jack by saying “I hope u find what youre looking for”, and Claire says she’s going to kill her if she had AAron, which shell definitly find out when all convene at the temple on the next episode.

I thought Dogen was “the new Jacob” in the sideways flash; he seemed to be trying to influence Jack just like Jacob did. I was just waiting for Dogen to touch him!

  • Stefanie said:

@brian and @jacobarcata thanks.. I thought I had heard that was a prop error on the ultrasound but wasn’t sure…. so shocked that they would make that big a prop error this late in the game.

  • Jeremy said:

Oh, and I can’t go back and look right now, but 108 was visible, it was some generic name, and it was crossed out.

  • ManilaRaf said:

@cateshane I want to agree with your last sentence. The only thing holding me back is Jack’s appendectomy scar. In the flash sideways world it’s gone from being recent to Jack having gotten it at the age of 7 or 8.

  • Stefanie said:

    108 was Wallace

  • Patty said:

I definitely don’t think David’s mother is Juliet. There was a picture of Jack and some woman with brownish hair and it was not Juliet. Already I can’t remember which scene it was in, but I think it was in David’s room.

  • Patty said:

If Jacob did know Jack was going to freak out and break the mirror maybe 108 wasn’t the person he was trying to bring to the island.

  • Brian said:

Jack had a very sneaky question when he said, “How is it that we’ve never seen the lighthouse?” Maybe the lighthouse isn’t always there, maybe it’s like the room of requirement in Harry Potter, it only appears when someone has need for it.

  • Colleen said:

@Brian +10 for the Harry Potter reference!

  • Brian said:

Haha thanks Colleen, also, maybe 108 isn’t really the person that’s coming to the island, maybe it was just to make sure that when turing the wheel (which seemed very similar to the wheel to move the island) Jack saw his house in the mirror.

  • Colleen said:

@Brian I still think that it’s Widmore coming to the Island, preparing for his part in the battle that we heard about back in Season 4

The reason we never saw the lighthouse is because Sayid never finished his walk around the island.

  • Brian said:

Just to add more to the Harry Potter talk… maybe there was more to the whole “you know how badly I want to kill you” perhaps Jacob has many horcruxes and from that time till now MIB had to kill them before killing Jacob; prolly not but just wanted to add more to Harry Potter

  • miscellaneousme said:

    104 - Lewis
    108 - Wallace

Stupid question here, but the original MIB that we’ve seen…Is that the real him? I know it sounds weird, but he is now MIL. Just thinking that he takes the shape of other people (locke, Yemi, Alex) so maybe we’ve never really seen who Smokey ‘really’ is. Maybe the person we saw as the original MIB was #108 and just another candidate that we will find out about later.

This could be crack-pot esque… Or I could just be tired…

  • Sarah said:

    1. Is it safe to say that Christian Sheppard has been the smoke monster all along?

Since Claire mentions “her friend” and “her father” told her the others stole her baby, does that mean she has seen both Christian and The-Man-in-Locke together at the same time? Or has TMIL taken the form of Christian on seperate occations?

    2. Who is the father of Jack Sheppard’s son? It looks like it would be Kate, but that wouldn’t really make any sense…

    3. Is someone really coming to the island-#108? Or was that a sneaky ruse by Jacob just to get Jack and Hurley out of the Temple and to further manipulate Jack into fulfilling some other destined act? Because I somehow believed #108 would be Kate’s #. However if someone is coming, I really hope it’s Desmond or Widmore.

  • ManilaRaf said:

“You’ve bled with Wallace! Now bleed with me!”

  • ManilaRaf said:

Just a thought. Wallace isn’t an important name or person. Jacob wanted Jack to smash the mirrors. So whoever was at 108 wasn’t or isn’t important aside from him being at #108.

Jacob wanted the mirrors smashed by Jack and Jack obliged.

Now, the mirrors can’t be used.

Is Jacob preventing MIL from looking into and gaining insight on any other person? Is the cycle of bringing people to the island now stopping since the mirrors are smashed?

@manilaRaf - thanks for the screencaps, it almost looks like Shepard has been written over another name that had been erased.

I don’t know if Jacob wanted the mirrors broken, I just think Jacob wanted him to know he had been watching him and that he had a special reason for being on the island. Jack has to be made to really think about his purpose there. What happened to his purpose last year of getting Kate back?

  • ManilaRaf said:

I know I’ve been making fun of the whole William Wallace/Mel Gibson thing all night.

But what if that’s a clue that whoever is coming from the outside is our favorite Scot?

Any chance Desmond David Hume is in fact a Wallace?

A stretch I know, but worth a shot.

  • Colleen said:

    @Raf - Good connection!

  • RB said:

It really does seem like Wallace 108 was just story to get Jack to the Lighthouse so he would see his house in the mirror and believe that he has been a ‘target’ of the island since he was a child. Especially because it seems from the screen-caps that Wallace is crossed off:

  • Saif said:

In the FS, Jack’s “apendix scar” looks alot like the same scar Claire showed Jin. So does that mean Jack still has a tie to the island?

MIL is bad. He lied to Claire about Aron!!

And OMG! WHO IS DAVID’S MOM???

  • Marcus said:

David’s mommy is Ilana! There were no pictures in the house because it’s going to be a big reveal later on.

  • Nana said:

@noelle yes, I meant christopher hehehe. I guess posting your thoughts at 5 am is not such a great idea if you’re after accuracy.

Someone brought up Kate’s vision of Claire off Island and I believe that was Claire’s spirit, un-infected and free of MIL’s influence, pleading for Kate to leave Aaron out of it. Or perhaps it was Jacob or MIL meddling one again…nudging our losties towards the island. Im pretty sure now BOTH Jacob and MIL wanted the O6 to come back. Both want to fight this battle and they need soldiers to do so. Also, MIL was prob waiting for Locke’s body to inhabit it so he had a BIG interest in the Ajira flight ending up on the Island.

But given Kate’s missing name and number on the wall I think that “visit” and it’s nature is significant.

  • Nana said:

@noelle ARGH! Christian…CHRISTIAN SHEPHARD! Gosh what’s wrong with me? hehehehe

    ;P

  • Jessica said:

What if ‘Adam and Eve’ was just a term coined by Locke? What if the skeletons are actually two men…MiB and (the original) Jacob?!?

Also, David’s mom, I’m guessing is Sarah.

I guess I was wrong about #108 being Kate’s number.

I do like the theory that the new batch of candidates (the kids) are heading the island, although I don’t think it’ll happen.

And while at first I liked the theory that the off-island/flash sideways was our character’s happily-ever-after’s, I don’t think this is possible. The only way it would be is if it’s years in the future after all this on-island stuff. Because Jack’s kid is what, about 12? I guess we’ll see.

Finally, if something bad is heading to the temple, does that spell out the end of Miles and Sayid? Sad, I like Miles!

  • James said:

MIL definitely used to be GhostChristian too. He hung around with Claire for a bit, corrupted her mind against the Others, and then when he needed to become Locke, changed, and reintroduced himself as “her friend”.

  • James said:

Best line of the episode: “What if we time travel again, but to dinosaur time. What if these bodies are us?” Thats just such a great nod to the fans. That and “this is so oldschool, just me and you walking through the jungle looking for something we don’t quite understand”

I think Claire may be entitled to the house. Jack’s mom looked shocked, so I think whatever Christian left to her was big.

I know its probably obvious, but i’d put money on the fact that EITHER Juliet or Kate is David’s mum. Its not gonna be Sarah, and its DEFINITELY not going to be anyone new this late in the game.

Best episode yet this season by a mile, and probably my all time favourite Jack episode.

  • SisterLeo said:

I don’t know where I’m going with this but…Jay got me thinking about making mirrors out of sand. Perhaps these alternate realities are mirror worlds of each character’s life, one light, one dark. Interesting that when Ben turned the donkey wheel last season it deposited him in Tunisia in the sand. Alice visits Wonderland by going through the looking glass, and we’ve also seen a Looking Glass Station. This may be the night time cold medicine talking, but I’m seeing a through line here. Thoughts?

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

After watching the episode again, I noticed something kinda cool.

When Jack arrives at the academy for his son’s recital, there’s a sign that jack reads pointing him in the right direction. The sign also says “Candidates Welcome” or “Welcome Candidates” (I deleted it already, sorry can’t check).

I’ve come up with a new crackpot theory. What if, since Jacob was stabbed by Ben…the incarnations Hurley’s seen of him are actually MiB, taking Jacob’s form?

Why? Well, MiB could be trying to eliminate all candidates. How did Sayid almost die, because he was sent to the temple by “Jacob” (MiB). How did the what looks to be the device that finds candidates (lighthouse) get destroyed, “Jacob” (MiB) sent Jack and Hurley there. How did Claire get brainwashed and will probably pursue the ideas of taking out Kate? MiB was there.

Weird stuff, could be the whole split personality thing that was mentioned on the J&J show, could be the earlier rendition of Man of Science/Faith (between Jacob/MiB), or it could be nothing.

    Either way…I love this show/

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

Oh yeah, another thing…so the flash sideways should be taking place in 2003 right?

Well, David’s TV in his room would be fairly futuristic for that time period. Were LCD/Plasmas that nice / thin back in 2003? I know Daddy Shephard must have made good money, being a doctor and all, but TVs that thin weren’t readily accessible 7 years ago.

    Just something to think about…

  • ChrisInBoston (author) said:

yep, one more thing….Jack’s name REALLLLY looks like it was rubbed off (TWSS) and re-written on the lighthouse thing. What’s that all about? Was the lighthouse’s interpretation of destiny changed? Did someone mess with the wheel to intentionally bring Jack to the island, against the original “list?”

was it just me or were Jack’s and Claire’s scars alike? Jack has no recollection of the scar, and his mom had to convince him that he got it when he was 7 or 8.

Ooh and another thing! (or two)
When Charlie played “Good Vibrations” before dying, he was told that the guy who programmed it was a musician: could it be David??

Maybe it’s all just an illusion, you know all Smokey & mirrors!! (pls don’t flame me for that, it’s the dayquil talking.)

PS How do you get to put an image next to your un? Thx.

Why doesn’t anyone think David’s mom could be Sarah?

Jack saw his childhood home in the mirror and assumed Jacob was watching him. Christian also lived there. Jacob could just as easily been watching him.

I don’t think Sarah is David’s mom. Jack and Sarah came about over Jack’s need to “fix” somebody. Sideways Jack seems a lot stronger. He realizes how dysfunctional his Dad made him and he’s trying to be a better man. I think that’s why he turned down the drink from his mom.

Cucumber Jones, I think that David’s mom is Sarah!

PS I think Claire’s “baby” in the crib is a tiny version of the Tawret statue, complete with croc skull head.

    er, hippo head, that is.

Lighthouse was a great episode. I know lots of people are feeling the Jack hate these days, but I’ve been a Jack fan from day 1 - always have been, always will be…after seeing him take a step back from playing any key role most of last season, I’m definately looking forward to his character stepping up to the plate once again. I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter right now that it was revealed to us in The Substitue that Jacob has a child - now I’m pretty sure I didn’t fall asleep or anything during that episode and I most definately do not remember it being revealved that Jacob has a kid - anyone know something I don’t?

Also, I’m on the same page as all the others that think David’s momma is Sarah. The important twist to this story is that Jack has a son in which he can work through the daddy issues that’s plagued the Shephard family for generations. There really isn’t any reason to take the twist a step further by having the mom be someone other than Sarah.

Lostinthought - my sister told me that she’s been hearing about this Jacob has a child thing as well. I’m with you - if it really was revealed in that episode then I totally missed it. Considering that the blonde kid that MIL saw is the only kid that was in that episode does that mean that he is Jacob’s child?

Just a thought - Jack’s son David…….It’s been talked about how Jack is #23 and the 23rd Psalm is about a shepherd. In the Bible, Psalm 23 was written by the shepherd David, who killed Goliath and then became King of Israel.

Well initially I thought that Christian Shephard was being manifested by MIL. Why you may ask? Because Locke is in Christian’s shoe’s this time around. Literally.

But as everyone has noticed, I’m sure, Claire mentioned that she’d been seeing her father and her friend who turned out to be MIL. So, my theory is that Christian Shephard isn’t being manifested by MIL at all because Claire would be able to distinguish the difference between her father and Smokey if she could tell the difference between Locke and “her friend.”

This whole thing has been a giant game of backgammon. Characters are trying to be brought to their respective sides and some people need to be sacrificed in order to win the game. Some people may even be held captive by the opposing side until a roll works out in their favor. It seems like Jack is on Jacob’s side, but is his father definitely on MIL’s side? What if he’s being “held captive” like in backgammon. Though we don’t know for sure who’s good or bad yet, I want to believe that John Locke would have been on Jacob’s side. If Christian can resurrect from the dead, maybe Locke can too.

Anyways, just some words for thought. I meant to call this into the show but I’ve been busy and or have forgotten to. Can’t wait for the episode tonight!
