Sean @ the Movies: “Nine” and “The Proposal”
Sorry for the delay folks, I have been fairly busy these past few weeks. I am a little behind on the reviews, but I hope to get all caught up this coming week. It helps I haven’t really seen many new movies lately. So anyways, on to the reviews.
First up is Nine, the newest movie from Rob Marshall, who gave us “Chicago”, a movie I rather enjoyed, even though Renee Zellweger was in, not a big fan of hers. So this time we get another musical with an all star cast, Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren. The movie is roughly based on the movie 8 1/2 by Fellini. The story revolves a director who has had a series of bad movies and is trying to come up with his next great masterpiece. To make things worse, he is trying to deal with all the various women in his life (his wife, mistress, dead mother, a reporter, costume designer and a lady from his past) who are a constant distraction. All this going on and there is still time for a few songs here and there. I am not a huge fan of musicals, but every once in awhile one comes along and I find myself liking them. I thought this was a decent movie, a good number of the songs were good (It’s one of those movies that your gonna have the songs stuck in your head the rest of the day or your gonna buy the soundtrack). The scenery was amazing (I really need to visit Italy at some point in time) and plus seeing some very beautiful ladies for most of the movie, didn’t hurt. Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz are the standouts in this film. I am going to say overall it was a good film and it is one that will look amazing on Blu-ray on a HD TV. It was a movie that Fergie (the lady responsible for the demise of Black Eyed Peas) was in, and I have to say her version of “Be Italian” was one of my favorite songs, so it must be a decent movie. There was nly one thing that was missing from this movie: where was the “I drink your milkshake” song? (hello…is this thing on?) Sorry for that bad joke, I couldn’t help it.

Next up, is The Proposal starring Ryan Reynolds (lucky bastard that is married to Scarlett Johansson) and Sandra Bullock. It’s a rom-com about Ryan Reynolds’s character who is the asst. for Sandra Bullock’s mean boss lady character. He is stuck trying to hopefully get a promotion in the company but she is making his life a living hell. One day, she finds out her citizenship is about to expire so she makes up a lie that the two of them are going to get married and then the hilarity follows. But I think that was a lie too. With two great comedic actors like that in this movie, I was really dissapointed, the LPM (laughs per minute) for this movie was very low, and the story was even worse. You can figure out what is going to happen in this movie just by reading the plot or watching the trailer. I am in shock why these rom-coms keep coming out and people keep seeing them. You know how it is going to end, so how is that entertaining? So I am going to highly suggest staying away from this movie, and I propose (get it) you watch a better movie like Love Actually.

So that is going to be all for this batch of reviews. Like I said, there should be a few more coming out later this week, so be on the lookout for them.
Until then, go out and see a movie
