  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

Jorge was such a cute baby, and that was his real dog. I thought for a second it was a memorial to Hurley. Oh and I love his mom.

  • Stefanie said:

Is Michael the first ‘dead’ person that we’ve seen this season? can’t remember… if so what is animating him? not smokey? thought that smokey was locked in locke’s body (no pun intended).

  • Jeremy said:

Answered my own question: Pierre’s LEFT hand was nailed in the Incident. Never got a good enough view to see if he still had it or not.

Well I’ve laready seen the episode (yay for Canada….even though Im Spanish AND in Spain atm kekeke) and I have to say I liked it, but I did not love it. There are great reveals, some awesome character interactions and plot development but somehow the pace of the episode felt really weird…like off, I did *roll eyes* a couple times and the acting was a tad, dare I say, weak, at times.

Wish I could stay and discuss once east coasters have watched but it’s past 3am here and I need some sleep! Hopefully i will join you guys tomorrow! Enjoy!

Jlyn, Beth spoiled us on the Libby thing in Hawaii inadvertently when she was telling a story about something else lol but I didn’t expect her to come up like that

  • ChrisInBoston said:

Dude, TOTALLY saw that coming. not the dynamite, but when she started her last sentence, i thought a flaming arrow was about to fly its way into her chest.

  • Anthony Todaro said:

    Sayid the Nihilist…

  • Leigha in Lexington said:

Should I feel bad that I laughed at that? I knew that was going to happen.

  • timbowie said:

so far the candidates have been the only ones able to handle the dynamite without going boom.

I’m sure this has been brought up before, but it’s just occuring to me… Santa Rosa Mental institute — Saint Rose?? Do you think there is any connection to Rose?

  • Laura/SDOrioles said:

@ Colleen - I figure since Hurley only sees some dead people that he needs to listen to them even if they murdered the ones they love.

Do you guys think that’s all we’ll see of Libby & Michael in this episode?

  • Anthony Todaro said:

    Sith Sayid is awesome!

I was thinking… Wasn’t Mr. Eko supposed to be playing Flocke’s part… That would have been cool. I bet Real Locke wouldn’t have committed suicide if that arc was still on the table… Weird….

  • timbowie said:

I’m wondering if Libby was visited by Desmond in Santa Rosa or she had a near death experience.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

@shelli So was I. You could see the dynamite leaking and when she was throwing things in the bag I was thinking she should be more gentle. Doc….Too late

So going on the reincarnation theories from last week…

Arst reincarnated as Illana… quite an improvement.

  • Jessica said:

I was pretty ambilivant towards Ilana, I thought the whole “I’ve been training my whole life for this” was a little cheesy, honestly

  • Laura said:

@ Matt–yep, it sure did. She was blown to bits by the dynamite she got from the Black Rock.

  • Laura/SDOrioles said:

What a waste for Ilana if she was preparing for this her whole life and she doesn’t get to see it through. Wonder if we’ll ever find out why she was in that hospital.

  • timbowie said:

hah, Jack is sensible. He really has come full circle.

  • shelli said:

    Jack - SMART FARKING LINE!

“The Island was done with her…makes me wonder what’s going to happen when it’s done with us.” -I think that’s perhaps one of the most telling lines of the season thus far.

  • Will said:

    WTH

  • Laura said:

Add one more to the WTF count!

  • Debbie In Indianapolis said:

What the heck???? He has the ashes - I bet Jacob told him to do it

  • Willfry said:

or hurley could just blow the whole thing up

  • bondy1k said:

Wow, Richard didn’t want anyone handling the dynamite because he knew it wouldn’t blow him up. Reference to when Jack show him so.

Crackpot theory - after being blasted with electromagnetism last week, Desmond slowly turns into Magneto, and battles with Man in Locke who is revealed to actually be Charles Xavier.

  • Laura said:

    @ Erik–Ha! I love it!

  • Stopher said:

    @stefanie - we are at five WTF’s…
    #1 - Michael warns Hurley
    #2 Libby meets Hurley
    #3 Ilana blows up
    #4 Desmond eats chicken
#5 Hurley blows up the Black Rock

  • Ashley (author) said:

Well, I will admit it. There was something about Ilana that ‘annoyed’ me. lol So, YAY!

  • Will said:

Was that Mr. Friendly in the Happy Town promo?

  • NaysWay said:

So is Miles pissed yet that dead people are talking to Hurley instead of him?

  • Jana said:

Dead people are more reliable than live people

  • NaysWay said:

Island in the picture. Heh heh.

  • timbowie said:

“dead people are more reliable than alive people” what kind of logic is that? haha

  • sio said:

whoa! hugo, libby, mental institutions - all too weird.

  • Stefanie said:

OK no one has said anything about this yet — I think… so I’ll be the first to ask… what the heck is up with Libby’s hair… I think she and claire go to the same salon that exists in both timelines…

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    I’m hoping to see Lenny

  • Willfry said:

can I go on a fajita field trip

  • Stopher said:

WTF #6 - Libby’s makeup and hair-styling in an insane asylum?

  • Anthony Todaro said:

    This blew my mind:

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus (Greek: Ἐπιμηθεύς) (”hindsight”, literally “afterthought,” but in the manner of a fool looking behind, while running forward) was the brother of Prometheus (”foresight”, literally “fore-thought”), a pair of Titans who “acted as representatives of mankind” (Kerenyi 1951, p 207).

They were the inseparable sons of Iapetus, who in other contexts was the father of Atlas. While Prometheus is characterized as ingenious and clever, Epimetheus is depicted as foolish.

  • Ashley (author) said:

Libby looks good for someone institutionalized. She is wearing more makeup in the joint than she did at the restaurant. ;)

  • timbowie said:

I wonder how Libby is able to have the flashes upon meeting Hurley but Hurley isn’t doing the same.

  • Ashley (author) said:

I just realized I rewound when Ilana blew up, just to see it again and need to catch up with everyone. haha

YEAH He will finally get his date with Libby.

  • Steve w said:

Finally gonna get his date with Libby awwww

  • shelli said:

    little Jacob?

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

Desmond saying “brotha” ranks up there with things I’m going to miss most about LOST

  • Stopher said:

    WTF #7 - Man in Black as a boy….

  • ChrisInBoston said:

that whole interaction was the same as when they set up the date back in the day.

  • Will said:

    another WTF moment

  • Martha in FLorida said:

Cool! Hurley and Libby are going to elope.

  • Debbie In Indianapolis said:

so is that Aaron?? Again with the Aaron ties

  • Stefanie said:

That boy looks like a little Jason Borne (aka Matt Damon)… ya think?

  • Laura/SDOrioles said:

Okay who’s the boy with the creepy smile? He’s a different boy than the last one!

    Grenades? Look out Miles!

  • Willfry said:

@timbowie because she died on the island so she can remember the other timeline

  • Chris Outside of Philly said:

OK, creepy kid counts for 2 WTF!!

  • Ashley (author) said:

How could Libby know Hurley from an alternate universe when she died in that universe? Desmond didn’t die in the alternate universe, but he also felt he knew Hurley from somewhere else. I think Ghost Hunters needs to be consulted.

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Hurley = the new Jacob

  • Debbie In Indianapolis said:

Hurly has a creepy way about him!! Could he be turning bad?

  • Anthony Todaro said:

Lapedus is Jacob and Flocke’s dad.

  • shelli said:

did Hugo touch locke’s hand at all?

  • Laura/SDOrioles said:

Hmmm, candidates go one direction and the others go another…

  • Stopher said:

WTF #8 - Hurley, Jack and Sun want to go talk to Locke?!?!

  • Stefanie said:

who knew it … another tribe broken… so now we have:

    the lockies
    the hurlies
    the widmore crew

    what a war… this is getting crazy…

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

I think they just hinted that Lapidus is a candidate. All of the people that went with Richard were non-candidates….Lapidus stayed

  • Anthony Todaro said:

This is one heck of a setup… lines have been drawn. Ha ha.

    ______________________

  • Stopher said:

@stefanie - does that count for another WTF?

@Debbie-Oh no, I refuse to believe Hugo would be bad. That would be a huge disappointment!

I really like Jack he’s just following Hurley. No questions asked.

  • Colleen (author) said:

I want more Sith Sayid on screen so I can say “Sith Sayid” in a sentence.

  • Jessica said:

@Ashley Desmond was there to “show” Hurley something. Remember last episode when he asked for the plane’s manifest. He’s on his hunt now apparently for all of the passengers. JHMO

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Jeremy in MS - Good catch on the candidates…interesting…I really hope that Richard’s not leading those 3 to their deaths.

  • timbowie said:

I keep thinking the hallucination Man in Locke is seeing is Jacob. Maybe he’s regenerating himself, at an accelerated pace.

  • NaysWay said:

@Jeremy in Mississippi - I’m going to have to agree with that theory.

  • Anthony Todaro said:

Not really sure why Hurley agreed then all of a sudden disagreed?

Maybe he just went along to get access to the dynamite so he could blow it up… Ahhh that’s it..

Wow, Hurley is Mr. Manipulator in this episode… Hmmm sound like someone we know…

  • Renee said:

    100 k buys 1 visit.

  • Jessica aka jlyn1980 said:

    So confident Frank.

  • Jeremy in Mississippi said:

How the hell is Sun gonna talk to anyone?

  • ChrisInBoston said:

I’m pretty sure Michael Bay directed this episode.

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Timbowie - How is the boy a hallucination that Sawyer and Desmond can both see too?

  • Jessica said:

@Jeremy wasn’t Mile’s name also on the wall though too at one point? So only current candidates went with Hurley?

    I like this new Jack…

  • Matt in Syracuse said:

    Jack had himself an epiphany

  • Anthony Todaro said:

    This is unreal.

  • Matt T said:

We got an answer! Now it’s only 16,2342 to go.

  • timbowie said:

ah, so Hurley’s power is everyone’s power to a degree. We know most of the Losties have heard the whispers. Nice reveal!

  • Willfry said:

well check that one off the list

  • shelli said:

    kind of an answer? (whispers)

  • bondy1k said:

I’ve got a feeling that Locke will try to make a deal with Jack to get him to leave the island. If he leaves, then Juliet will come back to life. This won’t happen because Jack will return to being a man of science!

  • Stefanie said:

OK I was wrong… it’s just the dead people..

  • Stopher said:

…followed by WTF #10 - Michael is sorry for killing Libby…

  • timbowie said:

I haven’t said this yet, but I am so glad that the sideways stories are still progressing from last week’s revelation. I had this fear that they were going to wait a few episodes before resuming Desmond’s mission.

But Jack and Locke have already come together in the sideways reality earlier in the season. What would be different about them coming together now that would make them remember things? Will they kiss? ;)

  • timbowie said:

I’m starting to think that Desmond permanently switched his consciousness with his sideways flash self. That was how he summoned up “Charlie” as his son’s name so quickly. He mowed down Locke in an attempt to prevent Locke from having an experience of his life on the island. Also, island Desmond seemed really aloof, like a man who has no history with the island. That might explain why he has no fear. Of course, my theory has a few holes (he remembered about the hatch).

  • Stefanie said:

    @Stopher said:
Should we add the naming of Des’ son as “Charlie” as another WTF?

@stopher “You read my mind” (see post above) CREEPY… maybe we’re caught in the LOST vortex.

Ok, besides the obviously great scenes between Libby and Hurley AND the explanation of the whispers…I am totally confused. Will killing Locke off the island prevent what is going to happen?

My reincarnation theory is slightly not working due to the fact they can remember and it’s obviously impossible to be “reborn” at the same age they experiened the island timeline as.

I just am curious as to what Jay and Jack’s thoughts will be for this episode.

If Christian was the one who released Michael,

A: How did he appear to him OFF THE ISLAND? The freighter was way off the island.

B: Was is DWG? I thought we’ve now established that Christian had to be DWG with the Claire connection and all?

C: So what then gives DWG the authority to release Michael from anything… He doesn’t speak for the living…

D: Now I’m wondering how did Michael become immortal there for a minute? He was granted this by DWG?

I am sensing loose plot holes…

And Desmond runs down alternate Locke. I suppose, with Desmond, the left hand knows what the right hand is doing so to speak. The sideways Des understands that island Locke is a bad dude. So he goes after sideways Locke. Not sure how that’ll affect things on the island but that must be what’s happening.

  • timbowie said:

    @ Diane in NJ-

that’s a good point, I’ll have to see a few more episodes to see how it plays out. To me, it played out like Desmond not having a plan or purpose on the island so Locke was free to kill him (though he’s not dead in the promo, haha).

  • NaysWay said:

What if Sideways Desmond, after reading the manifest, knows everything: knows who is supposed to hook-up, knows who is supposed to die. Wouldn’t that explain why he felt the need to run Sideways Locke over? Because he knows he’ll become Smokey on the island? Isn’t it also why Island Desmond didn’t need Widmore to explain why he’s there after the sonic blast? I think Island Desmond knows who Island Locke really is and is playing him. Island Desmond = Ghost of Christmas Past & Future.

A lot of people have had the theory that everyone is going to meet up at the hospital in the sideways timeline. here’s a recap — help me out what am I missing:

    - Claire (having Aaron)
    - Charlie (after car accident)- he left too and is on the run
    - Locke (on his way there)
    - Jack (works there)
    - Kate (with claire) - but she left and is on the ru
    - Sun and Jin (after Sun is shot)
    - Maybe Rose (for cancer treatment?)

Missing sawyer and miles but Miles isn’t an original LOSTIE

Hmmmm a hospital in the City of Angels. The wikipedia history of hospitals is eerily similar to some of the themes on lost… here’s a snippit

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital

In ancient cultures, religion and medicine were linked. The earliest documented institutions aiming to provide cures were Egyptian temples. In ancient Greece, temples dedicated to the healer-god Asclepius… functioned as centers of medical advice, prognosis, and healing. At these shrines, patients would enter a dream-like state of induced sleep known as “enkoimesis” not unlike anesthesia, in which they either received guidance from the deity in a dream or were cured by surgery.[2] Asclepeia provided carefully controlled spaces conducive to healing and fulfilled several of the requirements of institutions created for healing.[3] In the Asclepieion of Epidaurus, three large marble boards dated to 350 BC preserve the names, case histories, complaints, and cures of about 70 patients who came to the temple with a problem and shed it there. Some of the surgical cures listed, such as the opening of an abdominal abscess or the removal of traumatic foreign material, are realistic enough to have taken place, but with the patient in a state of enkoimesis induced with the help of soporific substances such as opium.[4] The worship of Asclepius was adopted by the Romans. Under his Roman name Æsculapius, he was provided with a temple (291 BC) on an island in the Tiber in Rome, where similar rites were performed.[5]“

AWESOME episode! The episodes since “Ab Aeterno” have just been getting more and more brilliant!

    Thoughts:

Charlie, Libby & Daniel all remember both timelines, and they all died on the island. Does this mean that we should be concerned for the safety of Hurley and Desmond since they now remember both timelines? :(

Desmond’s chicken order number was 42. This is the number for Kwon on the wall o’ candidates. Significant or just extra crispy?

Oh my god! We finally know what the whispers are! *HUGE sigh of happiness*

Lastly, what’s up with the creepy Willy Wonka tune on next week’s preview??? I know! The Oompa-Loompas will save all the Losties (through the use of copious amounts of Wonka Bars, of course)! Mystery solved. :)

So I was watching and thinking how Desmond was goig around pushing everyone towards there love connections in the show — the euphoria Charlie introduced him to last week and then I see him scoping out John Locke and started thinking ‘ how is John Locke’s life better in the island timeline?’ He has his girlfriend, a sense of purpose [driving Ben to taje action in the school], and he is dead and lonely in the island timeline, then blammo! he gets hit by a car. Interesting. And what’s the deal with the butterfly stitches on his head?

  • timbowie said:

yeah, I’m starting to wonder about that laFleur now. Maybe Sawyer had a memory from the island. That would please me more than “that name was always rolling around in his brain” or a wink by the writers.

Theory from my mother: The boy Smokey keeps seeing is Jacob. Every time he sees the boy, he’s a bit older. Maybe it’s because the boy is Jacob getting older after regenerating from his death/Ben killing him. The boy makes Smokey nervous every time he sees him because the older the boy gets, the more Smokey knows he’s running out of time to get off the island. If the boy reaches full maturity, he becomes adult Jacob all over again, meaning Smokey is screwed.

    Eh? Eh?

  • EricInOhio said:

OK, you MUST listen to this:
#1 the song that Ben is heard “singing” during the preview of next week is from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that not only talks about “the fires of Hell are growing”, but the movie reference is a great hit, because the entire movie is about following the rules that have been laid out…very simple rules, but they must be obeyed. For the kids in the movie that follow the rules, Charlie(interestingly enough) they are given a paradise, where everything is at their disposal. Compare that to The Garden of Eden, where God gave Adam and Eve everything, but laid out one simple rule to follow and when they gave into temptation, they brought sin into the world. The connections here are endless.

#2 UnLocke (the Devil) feels threatened by Desmond, because he(the Devil) derives his power from the fear that he senses in people and Desmond feels no fear. When someone is fearful or unconfident they can be manipulated and convinced to follow paths that they would normally not follow. Because Desmond doesn’t WANT anything, UnLocke has no leverage with him…think Psalm 23 “I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righeousness for His name’s sake. EVEN THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE SHADOW OF DEATH, I WILL FEAR NO EVIL, FOR YOU ARE WITH ME, YOU PREPARE A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Also, hearing Michael mention that “they”( the ones that have done wrong) are stuck on the island sounds alot like the Catholic idea of purgatory. Way back when we first met Ben and he held up the ID with the name of Henry Gale, if you Google the address that was on the ID you will find that about a block away is a real park named…..wait for it…..Purgatory Park.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Do you think that we’ll get an answer to where LaFleur came from (maybe Sawyer was French and he just has a thing for bringing flowers to his lady friends) :o) or Sawyer’s way of showing his emotions are by bringing flowers? (my theoies are sucking.. I think I’m overtired) please excuse the insanity.

  • NaysWay said:

Another thought: Is Lepidus really a candidate, or just the person needed to fly the plane? What if that is his only purpose?

  • timbowie said:

@NaysWay — that is my theory, too! Spooky. Though, it does make me wonder why there are candidates if Jacob is just like a phoenix.

This is the WHITE HOT theory of the week!!! =) Ha ha ha.

CUE THE SONG: When We Touch….

Soooo LOST is actually one big anti-Prop 8 message! We figured it out! ;)

or maybe he’s a fan of Mallrats, haha.

I think it might be one of those things left up for interpretation. If we keep finding out that characters are channeling their lives on the island though, I think the LaFleur reference will end up being a piece of foreshadowing.

    OKAY I HAVE A THEORY!

(Sorry to yell, it took me the last 50 minutes to catch up on the comments lol). Here goes:

Soooo, the big thought on here is that Desmond ran over Locke to reunite him with Jack even though they’ve already sorta met at the airport. But Desmond believes that the Sideways world is the “wrong” world, right? As per Desmond’s conversation with Faraday last week, he technically believes that the Sideways world isn’t the “right” world they’re supposed to be in and that Love is the answer.

Who is the ONLY person in the Sideways world whose love life has worked out a HELL of a lot better than in the real world? John Locke. He’s the only one who was already with his “love” in a world that (as per Faraday) “doesn’t exist.” This was a woman who was the definition of the c-word the first time around and now she’s suddenly the perfect woman who understands when he has knives in his suitcase?

Desmond understands (or has an understanding) of how both timelines work. We know that they are definitely, 100% connected in some way. But HOW? It’s odd that “love is the answer” but Locke already has Helen. Is this significant?

I spoke to Boston on gchat about this theory and he suggested that Locke’s dad is going to give him a kidney in the hospital and that’s the love he’s looking for - his dad’s love. I think that’s a valid theory but I’m still super suspicious about Locke in this timeline. Especially because he seemed to be instigating Ben during “Dr. Linus.”

Just looking at the Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics and I still can’t get over the links between LOST and Flash Forward. In FF they blatantly talk about the Many Worlds theory… I even think Dominick Monaghan discusses it in his character on FF.

    Here’s an overview…
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

I think I’m just desperately hoping that LOST will live on in FF and at the same time I’m thinking that would be cheesy. Just so sad to see LOST end — I need to accept its fate ;o)

Don’t know if anyone figured this one out but that Russian Novel Hurley found was Notes from Underground by Dostoyevsky. It is thought to be the world’s first existentialst novel. I don’t know if there are any deeper connections yet. Still reading.

O.K. Crackpot theory of the week….

Flashforward is a spinoff of LOST, we just don’t know it yet.

According to the many worlds theory (that has been mentioned a few times in FF)”there is a very large—perhaps infinite—number of universes, and everything that could possibly have happened in our past, but didn’t, has occurred in the past of some other universe or universes.”

“the universe (or multiverse) is composed of … infinitely many, increasingly divergent, non-communicating parallel universes or quantum worlds.”

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

Perhaps we are seeing another “non-communicating” parallel universe of the Charlie and Penny characters in LOST through FF?

Or perhaps this is just my futile attempt at trying to make LOST live on after May 2010. Long live LOST!

Did anyone else hear right after Hurley spoke to Ilana,
I heard the whisperer’s say her name. Then she died.
When the candidates were walking in the jungle and heard the whisperer’s, I heard Richards name. Does that mean that he is going to die?

  • Stefanie said:

    @Martha in FLorida

I heard richard’s name in the whispers too. Not sure if it means that he’s going to die… i thought he couldn’t die (that would break the rules).

  • Colleen (author) said:

@Martha - I didn’t catch that but now I have to go back and listen. Anyone else hear that? Richard can’t die!

  • JordanFromJersey said:

Richard can’t kill himself, he might still be able to BE killed. (the dynamite couldn’t kill him because it would kill Jack too and Jack would have therefore killed himself)

    • Prometheus = Forethought
    • Epimetheus = Hindsight

These two were brothers. There dad was Lapetus.

    Here’s the weird part….
They were both powerful deities aka “Titans” who “acted as representatives of mankind”

They were the inseparable sons of Iapetus, who in other contexts was the father of Atlas. While Prometheus is characterized as ingenious and clever, Epimetheus is depicted as foolish.

Does that sound familiar at all? Ha ha.

  • timbowie said:

I actually had thought the matter of whispers in the jungle had been settled earlier. I thought they were the Others. Ben telling Rousseau as he takes Alex, “If you hear whispers, you run the other way” and whispers before Keamy was ambushed by the Others are two examples I can remember. Is it possible that this is not a continuity error? Were the Others utilizing the dead people?

  • Anthony Todaro said:

@ timbowie >> Is it possible that this is not a continuity error?

As much as I am enjoying the ride, one can’t deny when this beast is finished there are gonna be some errors for sure.

But as we round this bend into the home stretch I’m focusing on the MACRO and phasing out my MICRO vision until it ends. The minutia is becoming less and less important to me and the characters are ever important. I want a sunset and a big movie kiss! Clementine pushing Aaron on the swings! lol.

Crackpot Theory: Hurley continuing to gain weight on the Island is a result of him gaining weight in the alt time line. We have already seen it with Sun. Actions in the alt time line impact the Island time line. So my theory is that the alt time line has existed since Day 1. This is getting very Donnie Darko.

    THEORY:
“Locke” pushed Desmond in the well because…
    A. “Locke” uses people’s own fears to manipulate them. If Desmond was no longer afraid, “Locke” could not manipulate him into doing what he needs.

    B. He didn’t kill him because he CAN’T kill him in human form, and was not able to transform into smoke for whatever reason we will later find out about.

    Theory:

Sun is at the hospital with a gunshot wound so the police must be notified. This could bring Miles and Sawyer to the hospital. Perhaps they will be investigating the murders at the restaurant and find something that will lead them to Jin and Sun. Sawyer will come in to question Sun and meet her doctor, Juliet.
