Over the past two years after America’s first African-American president Barack Obama was elected there has been a growing number of racially charged threats against his life. For the most part the threats really were no threat at all, they were just from stupid people, and probably the amount would not be much higher than that of a typical white president, although a threat is always serious and must be dealt with immediately, no one would take it seriously as a true threat. More recently, however, the amount of hatred from fringe hate groups has exploded to unacceptable amounts. A simple google search and this, will show an unprecidented amount of hatred festering within the country.

The scariest part of this however is not who is making the…
There has been some recent controversy the possibility that the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged accomplices, will take place in a civilian court in my home state of New Haven, Connecticut. There are some who say that the trial is taking place to close to the sight of the crime, and there are others, who believe that terrorists do not deserve a civilian trial. Sarah Palin was quoted as saying in a recent speech, “I don’t think the terrorists are worthy of our rights.” Our justice system was created to give an impartial and fair trial to everyone, even the most despised of our society, hence the saying “justice is blind.” If we allow our emotions to…
I know I have invited debate in the past over my political posts, however here I ask that commentators save their articles for Colleen’s article. This post will be my feelings on the issue; I invite comments but this will not be a debate post. My debates will return so if you guys are missing them (all one of you), don’t worry they will return.
This health care bill is the most important issue of the century. Debate over this represents a fight between corporate greed and the people who are taken advantage of by this greed. Whatever happens here will determine whether corporations can continue to abuse and murder or if the people will rise up and say enough is…
From the AP: Scott Brown defeats Martha Coakley in Mass. Senate race for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s seat. He will become 41st Republican in Senate.
Discuss. I smell another healthcare debate coming on.

So on Christmas Day 2009, a man who was on a government watch list (but not on a “no-fly” list) and brought to US officials’ attention just one month ago unsuccessfully attempted to ignited a “crotch bomb” on an international flight from Nigeria to Holland to Detriot, Michigan. If you haven’t been following, here’s the recap: This man had put an explosive chemical called pentaerythritol into a condom and then sewed that into his underwear. About 40 minutes before landing, the man went to use the restroom and 20 minutes later returned to his seat, pulled a blanket over himself and lit the explosive. I’d tell you the rest of the heroic stuff but I’ll save that for the movie. …
I have worked both union and non-union jobs and am currently a union public employee. I have seen my share of bad employees in both the public and private sector. The difference generally is the bad employees in the private sector bounce from place to place while in public employment they stagnate in one position for life. Currently many states are in financial crisis for many different reasons and the first targets are always the public workforce and in my eyes this is because the unions protect the worst of the worst to the detriment of good employees.
One of the biggest problems I have found is that the union leadership is generally made up of a bunch of people who…
This is in response to President Obama’s recent decision to send 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan, while at the same time reiterating the fact that Iraq was and still is the long war and there is a need to pull out to refocus in Afghanistan, which according to the President is the right war. The decision to escalate any war is controversial and this one is no different, even members of President Obama’s own party are divided on the issue. I would like to ask my readers what you think on the issue, elaboration in the comments section is recommended.
You can find more controversial issues on Michael Kirschner’s website: http://www.michaelkirschner.wordpress.com
Patrick Kennedy revealed last week that Bishop Thomas Tobin has asked him to not receive communion, back in 2007, due to his support for abortion rights. Kennedy felt the need to make this public because the Catholic Bishops have recently taken a stance against health care reform based on the fear that federal dollars will pay for abortions. To me this is a typical grandstand move by a politician and comes as no great shock. If Kennedy’s beliefs do not line up with the RC Church then he should leave the church, it is a pretty simple decision. If you are pro-choice you cannot pretend that your faith and politics do not collide, they do. If this was a private request, Kennedy…
