Guess what? You don’t have privacy.
You’ve probably heard about privacy in the news or about Google Buzz sharing your information with other people or Facebook policies. You’ve probably heard someone say, ”My information’s not safe” or about a mother that thinks her children are being stalked, etc…
I’ll bite the bullet on this one and probably get a lot of negative feed back, but I think that it’s necessary to share my opinion on the Internet regarding privacy. Quite simply, I think you and I have none…sort of.
If you’re reading this, chances are (like me) you have several accounts from Facebook to Gmail and your reach might go all the way to MySpace or Friendster. You may have a YouTube account, a couple of credit…
Last night Kevin Smith decided he was wronged by Southwest Air and took a hatchet to them via Twitter. Apparently, from his side of the story, he was asked to purchase a second seat because of his size, after already being seated. I have empathy for the embarrassment he may have felt and not being there I can’t say if it was handled properly or not, but I do agree with the policy of having people who are too large for one seat pay for two. When I fly with my son, who is still eligible to ride on a lap, I buy a seat for him. Why? Because I feel it is completely inconsiderate to have someone sit next to me…
In my life I have been to Walt Disney World at least twenty times, as a child, a teen, a married twenty-something and now as a parent. I want to try a give a fairly broad view and my thoughts on rides, food and accommodations. This will in no way be an in depth guide but just my view of the resort. I have stayed both inside and out of the resort, but in recent years I’ve been exclusively inside. I’ll break down break down my thoughts by hotels/accommodations, parks, and food.
Accommodations
I will start by saying that Disney has definitely made it less appealing to stay outside of their resort complex in recent years. First parking is now $14 a day…
Scientists at Oxford University have this week announced a paper detailing that having relatively high levels of fat in your hips, butt and thighs can actually be healthy for you.
In a world where much of (ok, all of) our mainstream media is so image obsessed, with size zero seemingly being the definition of beauty nowadays (not saying I agree, far from it, but you know, it’s the generally held opinion) this research could finally bring something new to the debate.
The research shows that extra fat around the hips and thighs can actually help to protect against various cardiovascular and metabolic diseases including diabetes – although fat around the waistline gives no such protection.
Lead researcher Dr. Konstantinos Manolopoulos, said: “It is…
I’m currently in the air on my way from PHL to RDU, after about an hour delay in Philly due to snow. Delays are to be expected with inclimate weather and as a traveler you must learn to deal with them. However, the crew must also remember to keep the passengers informed of their status and not leave them in the dark. Information goes a long way in quelling anxiety and frustration that can come with flying. The flight I am currently on was delayed for about an hour due to snow, which is no problem. The only issue was the pilot didn’t speak to the passengers for almost the entire hour and only did so after being asked to…
Every year at this time people begin making their list of resolutions, whether it is losing weight, going to the gym, or quitting smoking and almost certainly they are doomed to fail. Setting some arbitrary date to begin a change is useless. If you are motivated to improve yourself or change a behavior do it now. Do not wait until the 1st, just go after your goals immediately. Making a life change is never easy and putting it off doesn’t make it any easier.
We all have faults or shortcomings that we wish to change, and the time for that is now. What will waiting a few days or weeks buy you? Myself, I have come to realize I am a…
On December 3, 2009, Mr. Robert Garrett, a beloved teacher at my school, passed away without saying goodbye. I was in my AP Bio class, just finished taking a test, when a student from his first period class came in and asked my teacher if she could tell us. “Mr. Garrett…died in his sleep today…”, she mumbled, in between tears. I could not believe it. Without any warning, any indication of a health problem, he was gone. My jaw dropped and a rush of sadness swept over me. Immediately, many of my classmates started crying. We were in his Chemistry Honors class the previous year, all in disbelief that we would never be able to visit his classroom and joke…
I wasn’t always this conflicted about the quintessentially American holiday of Thanksgiving.
As a child, Thanksgiving was something like a practice run for Christmas: My parents, my brother, and I would drive to my maternal grandparents’ house for a fun, delicious, and somewhat chaotic celebration with our large extended family. The foods we consumed were not dissimilar to those we would eat at Christmas; the fast-paced, witty conversations we would share were comprised of the same sorts of jibes and teasing exchanged by our stereotypically rowdy Irish family at Christmastime; in fact, the primary difference between Thanksgiving and Christmas to my eight-year-old self was the lack of presents and gingerbread at the former. The company was the same, as was the…

Actress Alicia Silverstone, who has been vegan for over a decade has just recently released her book, The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet, and recently launched her website, The Kind Life (http://www.thekindlife.com/) to help people live healthier and be kind to not only themselves but the earth. There also recipes that include ingredients the average…
This week is the 40th Anniversary of a show almost of all of us grew up on and one of the greatest shows ever Sesame Street. I don’t remember the first time I ever watched it but I do remember what it taught me. Sesame Street helped teach me my ABCs and 123s in both English and Spanish. They taught me colors, shapes, and “One of these things just doesn’t belong here.” Sesame Street always knows how to talk to kids without talking down to them.
- The pinball machine that counts to 12.
- The Ladybugs picnic.
- Whenever Grover served the blue bald guy in the restaurant.
- Teeny Little Super Guy
- Anything that Bert and Ernie would do, especially…
