The iPad, What is it Good For?: Steven “Grundy” Murphy

The Apple iPad, what is it good for? The haters say absolutely nothing, the fanboys say it’s the second coming. The following is my quasi-subjective, under-informed prognostications of what exactly the iPad is good for.

Reading: The iPad appears to be the ideal device to revive the dying newspaper and magazine industry, assuming a decent percentage of the market buys it. The New York Times app, as seen on Steve Jobs‘ keynote, looks very slick. I don’t read the paper, but I might if it wasn’t actually on paper. Newspapers and magazines that incorporate video on an iPad seems like a clear win to me.

eBooks (or iBooks in this case) is a big selling point of the device. So far, I’m not…

Why 3D TV Won’t Work for Your Living Room: Clif Armstrong

It seems that every time I turn and look at Google News, there’s all this hype about bringing 3D TVs to the living room.  I’m here to suggest that the hype is over-rated and 3D TVs will fail to find it’s place into the living room.

For my reasoning, I’m not going to list content or programming because there will be an increase in the amount of 3D programming created even though there is not a lot out there now. Also, I’m going to exclude price and product availability because the cost of electronics always drops, eventually, 3D TV’s will be available to the entire public.

1.  Nobody wants to wear glasses to watch TV.

The average person watches about 8 hours…

Windows 7 Doesn’t Really Suck… : Clif Armstrong

So a while ago, I wrote an article on pretty much why the new Microsoft Windows 7 sucks.  Basically, I didn’t give a thorough review on the operating system.  It was too expensive for me to test out.  Since then, I’ve built a new PC because of a couple of games that have come out, as well as to balance the ‘Mac’ side of things in my work and fun. Below is my experience with Windows 7 Professional.

Luckily through some digging and blog surfing, I was able to find out that you can get a full copy of Windows that’s called a “Systems Developer” install pack for about 100 bucks cheaper than it’s full retail version price. It’s a full copy of…

Modern Warfare 2 Discussion Pt 2- “That” Level: Michael Kirschner

WARNING!!! The following discussion could be seen by some as containing spoilers about a recently released game, use caution before continuing.

One of the levels of Modern Warfare 2 has recently caught some controversy especially in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Ft. Hood, Texas last week.  The game gives a warning and allows players to skip the level without penalty, however there is no cut scene or anything to explain what happened if you do skip the level.  In case you haven’t heard, the level in question puts you in the role of a C.I.A. operative infiltrating a terrorist cell.  In order to prove your loyalty, you must participate in a terrorist attack on a crowed airport, which in the…

Modern Warfare 2 Discussion Part 1: Michael Kirschner

WARNING!!! The following discussion could be seen by some as containing spoilers about a recently released game, use caution before continuing.

5 out of 5

Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t just pick of where Modern Combat left off, it takes the game to a whole new dimension.  Set five years after the fist game in the year 2016, players will find Warfare has truly become modernized, borders have disappeared, uniforms are relics, the battlefields is called the world, war is fought everywhere.  Modern Warfare could in fact be seen as wake up call against war as players no longer fight in an unnamed, generic, Eastern European bloc, but instead are called to the front lines in suburbia.  Yes you read this correctly, the Russians have invaded…

Do You Have A Website? : Michael Kirschner

I was thinking today that with all the advancements of the Internet, more and more people are now able to make their own websites.  I remember the first time I created my first website way back in 2002.  Things have certainly changed since then.  Back in 2002, if you had your own website you would be considered very technologically savvy; now almost eight years later, every one has at least some kind of version of a website.  Broadband internet is becoming more and more available to more and more internet users, and websites like Wordpress, Blogspot, and YuBlog bring internet publishing to the masses.  I do not consider a Twitter or a YouTube account to be a website but I…

Windows 7: Did Microsoft Get It Right? : Frank Emanuele

Almost two weeks have passed since the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest operating system. This is definitely the most-anticipated OS launch in recent memory. Can you think of another time when people have organized launch parties at home to show off a new OS to their friends? Neither can I. Can you think of any other software that was tested by over 8 million users before its official release? Nope. Me neither. But that’s exactly what happened. In a brilliant move, Microsoft opened up the Beta release to the public, offering free downloads of the OS through the end of the summer. The result was quite possibly the most widely-tested software ever.

I’ve been using Windows 7 regularly since March. I…

Why Microsoft Sucks and The Zune May or May Not: Michael Kirschner

Over the past few months I have been hearing wonderful reviews for Microsoft’s latest Zune, the Zune HD.  Sources such as Leo Laporte and Engadget HD state that it is the best Zune yet and it is finally better than the iPod, which other versions of the Zune were not.  Since I and several others trust sources such as Leo Laporte and Engadget HD, I decided I would ditch my iPod for a Zune HD.  Boy, did I make a mistake.  As of the writing of this article, I have not even gotten a chance to interface with the Zune hardware; for all I know the Zune still holds up to my expectations.  However before I could use the Zune, I needed to…

Microsoft Windows 7 Sucks: Clif Armstrong

Here’s why Microsoft Windows 7 will not get Mac users.

You’ve probably heard by now that Microsoft’s Windows and Mac’s Snow Leopard have been exchanging blows ever since their announcement.  Which ever one is better is all about your personal preference.

I’m not hear to bash Windows 7.  I haven’t even used it or tested it out.  So if Microsoft wants to take back it’s share of the OS market away from Apple, shouldn’t Microsoft make it easy for someone who has a Mac (like myself) to purchase and install a copy of Windows on their Mac?

Microsoft, you screwed up.

I have two computers: my Macbook Pro and a PC I built in 2005.  On my PC, I’ve run Windows 2000 and it’s…

StarTrek Online: Clif Armstrong

There are very few games that catch my attention. Maybe I’m just a Sci-Fi freak (oh sorry, Syfy, :P).  I’ve been a fan of Star Trek ever since the good lo days of The Next Generation.  Since then, fans everywhere have been kept at a  distance from their Star Trek worlds and have only gazed a little closer by attending the cliché Star Trek nerd convention where no-one seems to get their groove on.

But that time being separated from one of the most recognized franchises in the history of the world is about to change. Welcome to StarTrek Online (STO) where you as a player can take part in the universe that is Star Trek.

For those of you who’ve been outside of the gaming…
